Stampin’ Up! Nature’s Poem Easel Card for the Stamp Ink Paper #150

Good morning, y’all!  It’s Tuesday so time for another Stamp Ink Paper challenge for you to play along with!  This week it’s all about the fun-fold!

One of my favorite fun-folds is the Easel Card.  I like it cuz it’s so easy to make that it’s sort of ridiculous – but the wow-factor is high!  For this one, I jumped both feet right back into my wheelhouse and went with the Nature’s Poem DSP and the Rooted in Nature bundle, which includes the Nature’s Roots Framelits.  Take a look-see:

As I mentioned, our SIP #150 challenge this week is Fancy (or Fun!) Folds!  Come on over and play!

And – since the front of an easel card is just the front of a card ( 😉 ) I used the sketch from FabFriday to give me a hand!

I started with a piece of the Soft Suede patterned paper from the Nature’s Poem DSP.  Using the new Big Shot Embossing Mats (coming on 1 June), I embossed a few leaves across the front with the dies in the Nature’s Roots Framelits.  These mats are fun – and they make a wonderful impression!

See what I did there?! 🙂

I matted my embossed paper on a Blackberry Bliss mat for the card front.  The middle layer is another Blackberry Bliss-matted strip of the Nature’s Poem DSP, adhered with Liquid Glue to the card front.

I wrapped some Linen Thread around the card front a few times and tied a simple knot in the front.

My sentiment, from the Rooted in Nature stamp set (1 June) is stamped in Blackberry Bliss on Very Vanilla – then I fussy cut each of the phrases individually and adhered them to the DSP strip with Liquid Glue.

Using the leaves in the Rooted in Nature set, I stamped a few on Very Vanilla in Blackberry Bliss.  The large leaf is stamped-off-once.  For the smaller cluster, I stamped the image twice without re-inking.  Then I cut out all three images with their matching dies in the Nature’s Roots Framelits!

I tucked my leaves under the little Linen Thread knot, using Liquid Glue to adhere them.  Then I tied a small double-thread bow and adhered it with a scrunched up Glue Dot.

My card base is a Soft Suede panel, 4 1/4″ x 11″, scored and folded at 5 1/2″ and again at 8 3/8″.  I adhered the bottom portion of my card front to the bottom-portion of the card base with Liquid Glue.  If you’d like a video, here’s a link to another easel card I made. 🙂

On the inside, I matted the Nature’s Poem DSP on a Blackberry Bliss panel and adhered it inside the card with Liquid Glue.  I stamped the sentiment from Rooted in Nature in Blackberry Bliss on a small piece of Very Vanilla and matted that on Blackberry Bliss, too.  Over the sentiment, I added a leaf in stamped-off-once Blackberry Bliss.

To create the “easel stop”, I popped the sentiment on Stampin’ Dimensionals and placed it on the inner liner so that when I prop the card front up, it “looks right”.  You can see about where the placement ought to be, yes?

And that was it for the card!

My Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got more of the Rooted in Nature leaves on the front – I inked the image in Blackberry Bliss and then stamped it multiple times without re-inking…

…and I added more the leaf-strewn Nature’s Poem DSP to the envelope flap.

Et Voila! I guess you can see why I love this fun-fold so much, huh?  With just an additional score-and-fold, you get WOW!  And, of course, the Nature’s Poem suite is certainly one of my favorite-est favorites in the new catalog!  So much to do with Rooted in Nature – and being able to cut the images so quickly and simply (not to mention the embossing dies!!) with the Nature’s Roots Framelits…well.  That’s just the icing on the cake!

Sorry – didn’t have a good tree phrase!  Hope you like!

Finn Fan Fix

You guys, with my business growing, I’ve hired a Personal Assistant.

I’ll need y’all to communicate with me solely thru him, okay?

This is important.

I’m too busy.

I need him to be my gate-keeper.- and he lays ready to jump to fulfill my every need.

Hmm…well.  Thumbs might help…

I’m not gonna lie – I hired him for his good looks.  Everyone likes a hunk in the office, yes??  Not very PC, but there you have it. 😉

  1. When I saw that you hired a Personal Assistant, my heart sunk because I was going to move so I could be that! BUT, then I saw it was your thumb-less child, my angst was eased 🙂 Oh, and yes, I saw what you did there! Can you do a video to show how to use that mat and make that particular style easel card? I know there are videos out there, but.I.want.you! If not possible due to other commitments, I will go elsewhere with my tail between my legs…just kidding. Does Finn ever do that?

    • stampsnlingers

Well – he can’g actually GET his little stub between his legs, so… 🙂 I did demo an easel card a little while back – search my blog for “Easel” and it’ll come up. But – I WILL do a video on the mats – they’re pretty darned cool! Maybe Sunday! Thanks, Karen – and if I was going to hire a “real” PA – I’d be looking for you! 🙂

  2. Love, love, love your card today Mary! The colors are just perfect and so are the layers. Great design! 🙂 I’ll be sure to run all future correspondence through Finn…it is awesome to have such good help. 😉

    • stampsnlingers

Please do. If my phone answers but you don’t understand the language being spoken…it’s probably him. Thumbs aren’t the only issue… Thanks so much, Amy! 🙂

  3. So very pretty and so perfect for an easel card so it can be shown off properly! Love the pink/purple combo paired with the wood! Thanks for sharing at Fab Friday!

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks very much, Amanda! Appreciate you taking time to come by and leave a comment! 🙂

  4. Ellie Peckler

Dear Finn: Please tell your boss that her easel card is incredible. And do thank her for providing the instructions so I can try it myself. Have a great day and don’t forget to nap when Mary’s not looking. Woof (sincerely), Ellie

    • stampsnlingers

ROFL!!! Finn passed your message to me, Ellie – thank you for heeding my request! Glad you enjoyed the card! 🙂

  5. Beautiful card!!! How about a feather in the nest? Sort of nature-y. More so than icing anyway. I don’t know of a similar saying with leaves or trees in mind.
I think hiring a hunk is perfectly fine as long as the other employees are not upset that he doesn’t have other necessary qualifications, like thumbs, and the language barrier. 😉 Sounds like a hire based on who you know not what you know!

    • stampsnlingers

Weeeellll…he sucked up to me pretty good. And used “the lips” – so…I hired him on the spot! Thanks so much, Julie! 🙂

  6. PC is WAY overrated! The card is beautiful. Lovin those leaves. You are really acting as my Card Therapist. Sunday you brought out my gut-tightening sceered feelings regarding the words “fun fold”. Today rose up the angry feeling that my card recipients wouldn’t “get it” with the easel card. My over bossy self would feel compelled to write instructions, perhaps with diagrams, to insure they displayed / enjoyed the card properly. Thanks, Mary, for helping me move toward a healthier card life. You’re the best!

    • stampsnlingers

LOL, Sharon! Glad I can help you get past your card-making-fears!! Thanks so much! 🙂

  7. Heather Heroldt

Mary, this card is SO gorgeous – I love easels! The embossed leaves look stunning – I would never have tried this on DSP, so thanks for getting me started! Perfect details – thanks so much for playing at Fab Friday!

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks much, Heather – it was fun! Appreciate you stopping by! 🙂

  8. Kathy Fennell

I must sound like a broken record but “What a beautiful card”! 🙂 I love this easel card and this stamp set and paper are absolutely gorgeous! You know I couldn’t think of a better being then Finn for your personal assistant, but I would continue to guard him you know how the good looking and smart ones are always in high demand! 🙂

    • stampsnlingers

Yep – the good looking ones are highly sought after! Thanks so much, Kathy! 🙂
