Finn Fan Fix

Okay – to start off, I want to thank you ALL for the wonderful comments and the thoughts and prayers that you’ve been sending our way!  Finn probably doesn’t even realize how many folks (that he’s never met) love him so much!  It means to the world to us (me!).

Second – I want to apologize for yesterdays’ Debbie-Downer-Negative-Nellie-Pity-Party-Pauline FFF.  It’s been a long week, y’all – and Thursday was the second lowest point for me.  But.  I got some good advice from my Mom and several of you who left comments and sent private e-mails.

And – as a result of those words of wisdom – sometime while I was sleeping…I just gave it up!

I’ve done everything I can.  The doctors have done what we can do for now.  So – now it’s up to God and Finn.

And Father Time.  Yes – hard as it is to believe – it’s been just 5 days since the accident.  Only three since he had major surgery to repair the injury.

Hello?  What the heck was I expecting anyway?  I’ve had traumatic injuires and I’ve had surgeries.  I KNOW the toll it takes on the brain and body.

I do NOT know why I was expecting him to be “miraculously” all better yesterday.  Unrealistic and ridiculous.

So.  I’m letting it go.  I’ve going to focus on the POSITIVES!  And be tickled with any and all progress I see.

So there.

And – on Friday – I started to see more glimpses of “my” Finn!

In the morning, I thought he could use a quick brush – just to feel good!  I pointed at his spot and asked him to hop up – which he did right away!

My housekeeper came – and brought her grandbaby.  Finn was so excited to see her – and worried when she cried.  Just like usual.

When he started doing the pacing, I gave him a single Benadryl (half a dose) and kenneled him so he could rest.  He slept for an hour and change.

Later is when “it” happened.  Well – several “its”.

It One – he shimmied under the foot rest of the recliner.  That’s his favorite spot to sleep – and he hadn’t done that since he’d been home.

It Two – after we fed the horses and he had his dinner he…

Laid down to sleep in his “position” – behind the recliner and against the hearth.

He.  Slept.

Quietly.  Without any more Benadryl.

Later on, I couldn’t find him.  Until I looked…

Just like the Finn-of-pre-Monday, he put himself to bed.

These little “its” may seem like nothing.  But…they’re HUGE!

Oh – and he herded both cats a bit and stole some of their treats.  They weren’t nearly as pleased with this as I was! 😉

Finn’s in there, y’all!

How wonderful to hear. We all have ill effects from surgery and anesthesia, but he is young and will bounce back. I so look forward to Finn’s happenings, so keep them coming and we will keep him in our prayers for a full recovery and a return to being Finn’s Finn! Thanks so much for your lovely cards and letting us be part of Finn’s day to day activities. It is truly appreciated!

    • stampsnlingers

You’re so welcome, Barbara – thank you got wanting to come see and know! And thanks for the prayers and loving thoughts for the Man!

  2. OK, I’ll get right to the point…I didn’t come to look at a card or anything except Finn! I know you won’t be offended and I appreciate I can be honest with you 🙂 This news is so exciting! I’ll continue to pray for y’all. I totally get the pity party bit…it’s okay to have one as long as you don’t stay at the party too long. Sometimes it’s hard to stay positive…that’s why we have friends to come along side of us and lift us up and point that out Hugs!

    • stampsnlingers

LOL – not offended at all. I know folks are worried about my little Man – and I appreciate the love and prayers we’re getting! Thank you so very much, Karen! 🙂

  3. Yay! So glad that Finn is starting to return to himself little by little. 🙂 Thanks for sharing the kit, it’s a cute one for sure!

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks, Amy! I hope it’s a trend that will continue as he heals! 🙂

  4. Mary that is so good to hear. Finn is such a special breed. Prayer and love to you both.

    • stampsnlingers

He really is a special boy – and I’m starting to think perhaps I’ll get all of him back! Thanks so much, Rosalie!! 🙂

  5. Carole Fish

For the past few days I have been scrolling right to the Finn report before scrolling back and today’s report had me doing my happy dance! Go Finn! Never apologize for sharing; there’s a saying that troubles shared are halved and joys doubled so keep ’em coming!

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks so much, Carole – I’ve heard that saying! And I appreciate having so many folks who are willing to share my Finn troubles!! Hope we can keep you happy-dancing!! 🙂

  6. Dee Kepler

Patience is something we sometimes forget in a healing process of a loved one. Day by day, with your love to comfort and keep him and HIS ability to KNOW you love him, he will come around. After all, count his age in dog years vs yours and you know how old he really is. It is great to hear that some progress is being made. You are a good momma and he WANTS to get well. Just be patient. Thank you for keeping us updated on the FINN. Any day of progress will a great day!

    • stampsnlingers

Yes – it’s my least favorite thing to have to do. Wait and be patient. I’m trying – and all the kind words and love-across-the-miles that we’re getting is helping! And if love will heal him – I KNOW he’s going to be 100%!!! Thank you so much, Dee! 🙂

  7. Patricia

Good morning Mary, so glad that Finn is improving and so very glad that you are encouraged with his improvement! You see him every day and can tell so much more sometimes than even the vets how he is doing. He is so loved! Thank you Mary for sharing with us, like so many I page down first to see how he is doing and thank you for taking the time to still share Stampin Up when you are so busy! Many prayers your way!

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks, Patricia! I am lucky that my vets are willing to listen when I tell them he’s “just not right”! And they even say I know him better than anyone. So I’m fortunate, indeed! I appreciate the kind words and prayer – very much! 🙂

  8. Kate Stockman

SO GLAD TO HEAR FINN IS FEELING BETTER!

  9. Kate

As it is written, there would be no need for patience, were there not so many reasons for impatience.
I rejoice with you at these baby steps back to Finnosity. One day at a time. All shall be well; all manner of things shall be very well.

  10. Paula Poindexter

    Mary,
Will admit tears were shed yesterday and again this morning. Your anguish was heartbreaking.
Glad the Finn you’ve grown to know and love is peeking through the gloom. It takes time. Sometimes it takes a long time to recover. He has a lot going for him. YOU for one. He may never be exactly as he was before but he will still be a loving, sweet imp! Will continue to pray for our Finn and for you. There is a lot of healing you both must do. Time is on your side.
    Hugs!

    • stampsnlingers

Thank you very much, Paula! I’m trying to be a good nurse/Mom/cheerleader to my kid! Patience and time. Will need both! 🙂

  11. Robbie Miller

Great update on Finn ! Patience is a tough thing, especially when it concerns your fur baby.
It sounds like he has turned a corner … still praying for both of you !!
    Hugs,
    Robbie

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks, Robbie – if he hasn’t turned the corner, he can at least SEE the corner!! 🙂

  12. Sharon

Like Floridaperson, I came to the Finn Fan Report first off and am so happy to have a good report on him today. Baby steps but as the anesthesia works its way out and each day passes he’ll be back to his old self in no time! His goal is to please his mom, just in his own time. Here’s to a really good day today!

    Hugs and prayers.

    • stampsnlingers

Thank you so much, Sharon! I know he needs time to clear the anesthesia – but it’s so hard to wait!! I know time will work for us!! 🙂

  13. Like all the FFC, I scrolled to Finn’s part of the page! I’m so happy for your family that he is coming back to ‘Finn-iness’. It sounds like a great improvement from yesterday, he’s getting there,we’ll all keep praying for him!

    • stampsnlingers

Yes – it was a much much better day, for sure! Hoping the trend continues!! Thank you so much, Sue! 🙂

  14. Pat

No apology needed, Mary. I know this is a scary and emotional time for you. No surprise that so many are praying and sending get well wishes to Finn, he’s a sweet charming boy. ❤️
I know you’re taking good care of Finn. Remember to take good care of YOU too!

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks very much, Pat! I hope I can get my you-know-what together soon – before I stress eat myself back into next-size-up-pants!! 😉

  15. Trishy Pardue

Yea, Finn!!!! The prayers are working. Mary, Finn has been in my prayers constantly. He is too precious a gift from God for him not to get back to his old self. With your love and care, I know Finn will have a complete recovery. Please continue to keep all of us Finn fans updated on his progress.

    • stampsnlingers

I sure do hope so, Trishy – and know that all the love and prayers coming his way are helping us on the way to him being all better and “Finn” again! Thank you so much! 🙂

  16. Lisa A Crosby

Yay! This is great news! I am glad you are feeling better about Finn and I am glad he is showing signs of improvement. I cried over a dog I had never met the other day and I hoped and prayed that Finn would be ok. I think you are going to be just fine. I have been through it with my kitty and he had some rough patches after his surgery and even completely stopped eating because of the anti-inflammatory meds they gave him. It was horrible. Now he is a 20 pound beast lol! I actually call him Moose instead of his real name which is Max. Our furbabies are our children and there is nothing worse than when they are hurt or sick. I will continue to pray for Finn and hope that every day is better and better for him. Love to you both, Lisa

    • stampsnlingers

SO glad that Moose recovered and has gone on to thrive! It’s just so hard when they’re not doing right. Thank you so much for your kind thoughts and prayers, Lisa! 🙂

  17. Donna Lane(from N. California)

Awwwww, it just breaks my heart to hear of your precious baby boy suffering. I realize he is on the road to recovery but a tear rolled down my cheek the other night when I first heard. I’m a huge dog lover/hoarder so…I can feel your pain. Yes, patience is all you can practice right now. Just know that myself, Jaxon(mini austrailian shepherd), Eme(Dauschaund terrier mix), and Autumn(not sure what she is shepherd mix) sends lots and lots of air hugs and kisses.

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks so much to you, Donna, and your “pack! Give them all a big hug – and I’ll keep working on being patient! 🙂

  18. Kathy Fennell

I couldn’t wait to get to my computer and check to see if there was a FINN update! Oh and look yes there is and it’s all good and Mom is doing better too! Couldn’t ask for better news! God, prayers, time and love is one hard lesson that I have learned over the years! My Mom always told me that it’s ok to have a melt down just not a break down, and you more than earned your right Mary to have your “melt down”! New day and new beginnings to a full and complete recovery for all of you!

    • stampsnlingers

Thank you so much, Kathy – and your Mom’s words are pretty spot on! Melt down, get over it and drive on! 🙂 We’re working on doing just that here in GA! 🙂

  19. Micheline

I’m so glad Finn is doing better. I so look forward to hearing about his adventures every day (except for blogpost days). Hopefully Finn will continue his recovery.

    • stampsnlingers

Thank you so much, Micheline! Hoping for the same! 🙂

  20. Ellie Peckler

More kind words and love-across-the-miles from me, too, to you and to the fur baby. – Ellie

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks so much, Ellie! 🙂 I’ll give him your hug!

  21. Susan K

I think prayers are working. I too scroll down to check on Finn before checking the card these days and I’m so thankful you’re seeing lots of “its.” Small steps make up big miles. No apologies needed for sharing your thoughts–it’s why we’re here. Sending hugs and continued prayers for you and Finn–with hopes that the kitties lose more food. 🤗

    • stampsnlingers

Yes, for once in his life I WANT him to steal the cat food!! 🙂 Thank you so much, Susan!! We’re taking small steps every day! 🙂

  22. karren Olaveson

    Hi Mary,

What good news, Mary. I know with a little time, little Finn will be back to his old self… or young self.
I did not see any pity parties, Mary. You do not need to be sorry for anything you said. Worry is awful, and not knowing is even worse. I do believe, though, after you know you have done all there is to do,
and the experts have done all there is to do, a higher power must have to take over. The result of the outcome may not be the outcome we want. And as hard as it is to see negative outcomes, I believe everything happens for a reason. I do believe that Finn’s outcome will be anything but negative.
Give him a hug, and I hope you feel all of the good vibes coming your way. Take care, my friend.
    Keep up updated.
    Best wishes,
    Karren

    • stampsnlingers

Thank you so much, Karren! I, too, believe we’ll have a positive outcome. I DO feel all the love and good vibes – it’s been overwhelming! Take the best of care, my friend! 🙂

  23. Eunice Stoneman

So glad you are seeing some Finn-isms returning. They are such an encouragement, and I am sure that each time he acts or responds ‘like his old self’ your heart just soars with joy. Don’t be discouraged if he has some ‘off’ days, just remember that his brain is healing and he may need some time to sort out the confusion that he no doubt is experiencing. He probably doesn’t know or remember what happened and is trying to figure it all out. You are all in my prayers.

    • stampsnlingers

I know – I’m working hard to manage my expectations. I KNOW he can’t – and won’t! – have all UP days – and hope I can remember to chill on the down days. Thanks so much, Eunice!! 🙂
