Happy Thursday, y’all – and welcome to another Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop!! It’s color week and we’ve got the full complement of hoppers today! Do be sure to check out all their projects when you’re done here, won’t you?
Now – I saw a card a few days back that used the butterfly in the Beautiful Day stamp set. That card maker had stamped it in Black on DSP that I believe is the same that I used today. I totally thought I could find that card to give credit where credit is due, but…no. So – my apologies! 🙂
On Wednesday morning, I saw the biggest, most beautiful yellow and black butterfly I’ve seen in a long time – y’all, he was as big as my hand! I desperately wanted a picture – but he was being persnickety and wouldn’t hold still. But – he was the impetus for this card today. I stamped him on Painted With Love Specialty DSP and added a few images and sentiments from the Love What You Do stamp set. Take a look-see:
Our colors we were given…
If you’re looking closely – you’ll see I used Melon Mambo. Not Berry Burst. Ooops! It’s been a long week, y’all!
I borrowed the layout from this week’s Freshly Made Sketches.
I used the Stamparatus to emboss the Beautiful Day butterfly in black on a piece of Painted With Love Specialty DSP. First I stamped him in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink. Then I cleaned the stamp without removing it from the Stamparatus plate, inked it with Versamark and stamped right back over the top of the first image. Then I sprinkled it with Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heated it up. Finally, I fussy cut him and brushed his wings with Clear Wink of Stella.
On a Whisper White panel, I stamped the large “wash” image from the Love What You Do stamp set (available 1 May) in stamped-off-once Lemon Lime Twist. Then I added a few stems from the Love What You Do set in full-strength Lemon Lime Twist.
I added the sentiment – from Love What You Do – in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink at the bottom of the panel. Then I matted it on Lemon Lime Twist card stock.
On a piece of Vellum Card Stock, I stamped the flowers from Love What You Do in Tuxedo Black, then I added the small fill image in Melon Mambo over each flower. I cut the image out with a circle Stitched Shapes Framelits die and adhered it with Glue Dots to the card front.
I added Stampin’ Dimensionals to the back of the butterfly and used them to wind Gold Metallic Thread in loops, then popped it onto the card front.
I added a little row of Share What You Love Artisan Pearls to the body of the butterfly and one next to the sentiment and the card front was done!
On the inside, I added a second Love What You Do sentiment in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink to a Whisper White panel. Over that, I stamped the stem image in stamped-off-once Lemon Lime Twist.
I Fast Fuse’d the panel to a Lemon Lime Twist mat and into my Basic Black card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!
My Whisper White Medium Envelope got a couple of Love What You Do stems in full-strength Lemon Lime Twist on the front…
…and more of the Painted With Love Specialty DSP on the envelope flap!
Et Voila! I love how the Painted With Love Specialty DSP adds life and texture to the wings of the Beautiful Day butterfly! And the Love What You Do stamp set (that you can get for yourself on 1 May!) lent gorgeous florals and beautiful sentiments. Hope you like!

Finn Fan Fix
No FFF on Blog Hop days!
Very pretty Mary! The butterfly is amazing…bet the one that you saw in real life was too! And Melon Mambo is close enough. 😉
Thanks, Amy – I couldn’t believe it when I pulled the picture up to post. Whaaaa??? Berry Burst?!? Sheesh. The butterfly was spectacular. 🙂
Love how you used the DSP for the butterfly. I never would have thought of that. I have not inked up this set yet, but I’m sure I’ll be doing it soon. I like your technique of the black ink, versamark, emboss powder. I rarely think to do that either…I can learn so much from you…it’s a matter of remembering!
Thank you so much, Karen! It’s really fun – and easy with the Stamparatus! 🙂
Love the butterfly! What a great idea to stamp it on DSP! I must give it a try! Hope Finn is feeling better😕 Poor boy!
Thanks so much, Elisha – wish I could remember where I saw it first so I could give credit! I hope he feels better soon, too! Hugs! 🙂
This may be your best card yet! So beautiful. Love that butterfly. And, since SU will be coming out with black emboss powder in June, you won’t have to do the double step to emboss. Gorgeous!
I know! I’m so excited for Black-to-be-Back!! Thanks much, Julie! Wish I could have gotten a pic of the inspirational butterfly for you! 🙂
So pretty. I love how you incorporated the sketch challenge.
Thanks, Jaimie! 🙂
Card is pretty, Mary! (But, really, how’s FINN?)
Thanks, Linda! Updates to come on the Man! 🙂
Stunning!
Thanks so much, Paula! 🙂
Beautiful !! That butterfly is amazing. Love the background also.
Thanks, Shelagh! 🙂
I love the soft flowers behind that beautiful butterfly – it’s such a gorgeous use of the sketch! Thank you for playing along with us at Freshly Made Sketches.
Thanks so much, Kim! Appreciate you stopping by! 🙂
I absolutely love this card. Beautiful pretty colorful butterfly.
Thanks, Tam! 🙂
