Stampin’ Up! Lovely as Trees and Thoughtful Prayers on Black Ice for Stamp Ink Paper #141

Good morning, y’all!  Happy Tuesday!

Being Tuesday, it’s time for another Stamp Ink Paper challenge – and this week it’s a sketch challenge!

I used a fun technique that I recently came across called the Black Ice technique.  I did it on Copper Foil, using the Lovely as a Tree pine image and a sentiment from the Thoughts & Prayers stamp set.  Take a look-see:

Cool, huh?  Looks like an icy-rain!

Here’s the sketch for the challenge this week – hope you’ll make your own project and share it on the Stamp Ink Paper blog site!

For the details on how to do this technique, you can see it towards the end of the video from my live tutorial the other night!

I learned how to do the Black Ice technique when I watched Melissa Kerman’s good video – check it out right here!

I started this card with a piece of the True Gentleman DSP that I matted on a piece of Chocolate Chip card stock for the card front.  No – your eyes aren’t broken – I had to lighten the pictures just a smidge so you can see the art work – it’s a little difficult to photograph.  The True Gentleman DSP is a very rich Dapper Denim!

The vertical strip is a piece of Copper Foil, on which I stamped the pine cones from the Lovely as a Tree stamp set in Basic Black Archival Ink.  Then, I “did” the Black Ice with more of the Basic Black, Versamark and Clear Embossing Powder.  When it was cool, I adhered it to the card front with Fast Fuse.

Over the copper strip, I adhered a length of 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon with a little Liquid Glue.

The art piece uses more Lovely as a Tree images, as well as a sentiment from the Thoughts & Prayers stamp set – all stamped on Copper Foil in Basic Black Archival Ink.  And Black Ice’d (I’m not describing this on purpose – it’s a lot easier to “see” it on my video – you can just fast forward to the last 15 minutes or so!).

I Fast Fuse’d the panel to a Chocolate Chip mat and popped it onto the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

With a Glue Dot, I added a True Gentleman Button and a little bow tied from a strand I pulled from another length of the Burlap Ribbon.  And that was it for the card front.

On the inside, I kept it simple, using my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to add a second sentiment from Thoughts & Prayers in Basic Black Archival ink on a Very Vanilla panel.  A single Lovely as a Tree pine cone is the only embellishment.

I Fast Fuse’d the panel to a Chocolate Chip mat and into my Basic Black card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got another couple of pine cones on the front…

…and a bit more of the True Gentleman DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  This card is headed to a gentleman who recently lost his mother – so I hope he’ll find it comforting and spirit-lifting.  I simply love the Lovely as a Tree stamp set – it has long been a favorite.  And I think it looks spectacular on the Copper Foil – especially when “done” with the Black Ice technique, don’t you?  Hope you like!

Finn Fan Fix

When last I was in Utah at a project, one of my buds introduced me to a foldable, portable stand-up desk thingy for my laptop!  I borrowed it a couple of times when the comfy office chair stopped being…comfy.

Like – at all.

And I liked it!  It felt good to be able to stand for a bit and rest my hind-end.

Who knew that a hind-end needed resting??

Well – it did.

As a matter of fact, I liked it so much that I immediately went to my virtual retail therapy site – Amazon! – and ordered one.

Then I set it on my kitchen table and, during the day, I put my work computer on it when the watch tells me it’s time to stand up.

Finn – always helpful and willing to be supportive (I think he needs an Emotional Support Dog vest!) hangs with me.

Check the face.  I’ve heard that dogs mirror their people.

Do you suppose that’s the look that was on MY face while I was working?

Yea.  Probably. 😉

  4. Debra Anderson

Anyone who has ever struggled to make a “masculine” card needs to try this technique. It is perfect for a guy card and for any occasion. You did a beautiful job demonstrating it as well. Love it with the True Gentleman DSP.
Can you share a link for the stand up desk thingy (or a name)? My hiney could use a rest also! Lol!

  5. GORE-JUS! Love your card, and the technique. You have it down, girl! And, yes, I suspect that is the look you have when working. Looks like he is saying, ‘When will this be done so we can play?’

    • I think that’s EXACTLY what he’s saying – and really is the basic question, isn’t it?! 🙂 Thanks so much, Julie! 🙂

  6. Love seeing the finished project from Sunday’s FB Live! Amazing card, Mary! And I adore Finn’s smirk… 😏 🐾❤️🐾

    Beautiful card, Mary.
I am sure standing would be therapeutic…if it just didn’t hurt!!!
Ah, Finn…his expression is priceless. And his paw is too.

  8. Sherry Lowmaster

there is a way to clean your versa mark pad from the dark color left on it. just fold up a paper towel and press onto the pad and keep pressing and changing the fold on the towel until all the dark ink is gone and then reink

  9. Sherry Lowmaster

    gorgeous card, btw

  10. Denise Stoner
