Stampin’ Up! Seasonal Painted Harvest

Happy Hawwmp Day, everyone!  Hope your week is going well!  Mine is…going!  And it went in such a way that I had to eat a peanut butter pumpkin.  But I only had one.  And I was able to keep from eating any donuts.  Again.

Just sayin’.

My card today is the result of…”oh, you’ve got to be kidding me.  I didn’t bring Cherry Cobbler card stock?!?”.  I say that because I was half way done with the card and went to pull out said Cherry Cobbler card stock to cut my mats.  Why?  Cuz I was playing with the TGIF Challenge which is a color challenge using…Cherry Cobbler.  And, I’d already stamped my Seasonal Lantern sentiment and Painted Harvest flower using Cherry Cobbler.

So – I decided to substitute Cajun Craze (right after I put in an emergency, 2-day shipping order for Cherry Cobbler and Crushed Curry card stock.  Yea.  Forgot that, too).  But I decided that the stamping didn’t look bad – even with the disconnect between the two colors.  So I went for it! Take a look-see:

I was using the sketch challenge at CAS(E) This Sketch to help me with the layout.

And the color scheme is, as I mentioned, from the TGIF Color Challenge.

So – let’s all squint our eyes and pretend that the mats on this card are Cherry Cobbler.

I tried!

I started with a Crumb Cake panel and, using the fern-y leaf image in the Painted Harvest stamp set, stamped it all over in Crumb Cake ink for a tone-on-tone effect.  Then I laid a strip of 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon across it – adhering it with a little Liquid Glue.

I stamped the sentiment from the Seasonal Lantern stamp set above the burlap ribbon, in Cherry Cobbler ink.

Next up, I stamped the larger Painted Harvest flower image in Crushed Curry on a piece of Whisper White card stock.  I stamped it three times, inking and rotating the image a little bit with each stamp.  Then I used the inside image and stamped it a couple of times in Cherry Cobbler – again rotating it between the stamps.  I used Crumb Cake and stamped the flower inside image twice.

Say it with me…rotating the stamp a bit each time! 🙂

Then I fussy cut the flower.

I adhered a Delicate White Doily to the side of the panel with Liquid Glue then used my Stampin’ Trimmer to cut off the excess.  Over that, I used a Foil Snowflake.

I smushed the vanilla side of the snowflake into my Versamark pad and then sprinkled it with Copper Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  Then I heated it up!  I adhered it over the doily and trimmed its excess, too.

And here’s where I discovered the lack of Cherry Cobbler card stock.  So – I Fast Fuse’d the panel to a Cajun Craze mat.  Then I wrapped a length of Jute Twine around it, securing it in the back with scotch tape.

I cut a pine bough in Crumb Cake, using the die in the Pretty Pines Thinlits.  Then I cut a second one from a piece of yellow Painted Autumn DSP.  Finally, using the die in the Patterned Pumpkins Thinlits, I cut the leaf/berry shape.  These two pieces I smooshed lightly into my Crushed Curry ink pad to make them a little more curry-ish.

Then I build the collage with Liquid Glue.  For the flower, I put a few Stampin’ Dimensionals on the back and used them to wind some Linen Thread looks around – then I popped it over the other elements.

I used my Cajun Craze Stampin’ Write Marker to add some “seeds” to the middle of the flower and then tied a bow from Jute Twine and adhered it with a Glue Dot.  And that was it for the card front.

On the inside, I repeated the Painted Harvest flower in Crushed Curry, Cherry Cobbler and Crumb Cake in the corner of a Whisper White panel.  Then I added a few Crumb Cake leaves and Cajun Craze seeds.

I Fast Fuse’d the panel to a Cajun Craze mat and into my Thick Whisper White card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done.

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got another Painted Harvest flower and leaves on the front…

…and I added a whole slew of Crumb Cake leaves on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  I think it turned out okay.  I don’t even think the two colors actually clash all that much.  And, it’s hard to go wrong with Painted Harvest elements, don’t you think?  Hope you like! 🙂

  1. Beautiful card Mary! Love the layering and (I think!) that the colors are perfect. If you hadn’t said that the matting was Cajun Craze, I’d have never known! It sure looks Cherry Cobbler in the picture. Thank goodness for the 2-day shipping option! And the peanut butter pumpkin sounds like a perfectly healthy snack (or even dinner!) to me…it’s got peanuts in it and they’re healthy, right??? 😉

    • Yes – they’re actually considered health food in some cultures!! LOL! It was danged tasty – must confess! Thanks so much, Amy! 🙂

  2. I love this pic of you and Finn, I love your card…it should win something! What a neat idea to copper emboss the snowflake. I am going to make this today for a friend who has been laid up with broken vertebrae since Irma. She’s got a long road to hoe and this should brighten her day.

    • I think I learned that technique (embossing the snowflakes) from Kristi! Have fun CASEing and I hope your friend recovers soon! Thanks so much, Karen! 🙂

  3. Pat Christ

Looks like cherry cobbler to me! 😜 Your card is gorgeous, another CASE in my near future.
And Mr. Finn, looks like such a cuddle bug, bet you miss that!

    • He still is – even at 65 pounds! He’s a wonderful lap-full, for sure! And yes – I do miss him! 🙁 Thank you so much, Pat! 🙂

  4. This is beautiful, despite the fact that you had no Cherry Cobbler! I love how you pulled it all together anyway and shared that with us. It helps to know I am not the only one who forgets stuff in GA when I am in FL. What a nightmare to discover something is not there that you are SURE you packed. Love your creation today.

    • Yea – it’s hard to believe that I forgot such basics – especially given that I brought all the inks and refills in those Fall colors! Oh well! Thanks much, Jari! 🙂

  5. Jessie Knight

Hi Mary I love this Autumn card and I also love the Sunday card which is when I first ‘made your acquaintance’ so to speak. Keep up your good word and also your wonderful ‘words’. Just love them. Also love your talks with Fin.
    Love Jessie x

    • Thank you so much, Jessie!! Appreciate the kinds words – and thanks for watching my videos! Hope to see you this Sunday! 🙂

  6. Kate

Well, no unplannedness to my eye! Beautiful card as always!

  7. Beki Rich

Your Cayun Crush and Cherry Cobbler look fine on the computer. Nature throws a variey of color together, just saying! My personality is one that would want matchy matchy, but I am working on changing a little. Good job!

  8. Karen L.

Great card……you would have never known about the Cherry Cobbler CS if you hadn’t “spilled the beans”! Really! Sometimes you do what you must do!

  9. Sandra Warthen

    And it turned out beautiful!

  10. Kathy L

Love your card! And the reminder to rotate those flower stamps a bunch of times. My sympathies to you on your missing products. I’m back here in the Bayfield cabin, without my new label punch, but I do have the stamp set. And I was careful to pack a refill for my snail, but forgot the main holder thing. Try using the refill to apply adhesive!

    • Oh no!! Refill with no holder thingy….uhm….I got nuthin’ to help with! 🙁 What a total bummer, Kathy! Maybe two-sided scotch tape?? I’m sure sorry you left some goodies at home. Thanks for the kind words, though! Best of luck with your stamping, my friend! 🙂

  11. Beautiful take on the sketch!
