Stampin’ Up! Mixed Metals Cheers to the Year

Happy weekend, y’all!  Hope that the clean up is making a dent – the power (and air conditioning!!) are back – and that life is beginning the slow slog back towards normal for everyone!  I know you’ve got a long row to hoe ahead.

Wayne has started the fence repairing and tree removing.  Not a lot of damage – but enough that there’s going to be work.

Finn is trying to help.  More on that below!

So – if y’all know me at all, you know that Clean-and-Simple isn’t really my first choice in card design.  It’s hard for me, so…I don’t do a lot of CAS cards.  But for today, I wanted to play with the Freshly Made Sketches challenge, so I gave it a whirl.  I made my CAS-try with the new Cheers to the Year stamp set and some mixed metal embellishments (but not a lot of them, cuz…CAS!!).  Take a look-see:

And the aforementioned FMS challenge is what lead me to the layout.

I started with a piece of Whisper White card stock for the card front.  I took the two snowflake images from the Cheers to the Year stamp set and placed both of them on an acrylic block, then inked them in Versamark.  I stamped the snowflake duo all over the card front, sprinkled it with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heated them up.  Then I matted the panel on a piece of Champagne Foil.

Using Liquid Glue, I adhered a Gold Foil Snowflake to the card front.  Then I cut a strip of paper from the Year of Cheer Specialty DSP and one from Champagne Foil and adhered them with Liquid Glue.  The middle – and longest – strip, is a piece of Whisper White card stock that I wrapped with one of the Year of Cheer Designer Washi Tape designs.  Then I popped that over the other two strips with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

For the sentiment, I first stamped the circle shape from Cheers to the Year in Versamark on Whisper White and heat embossed it in Copper.  I added the sentiment – using my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig – to the middle of the circle in Versamark and then heat embossed it with my DIY “champagne” embossing powder (one part silver to one part gold, mixed).  Then I cut it out with a Circles Layering Framelits die and popped it on with a couple of Stampin’ Dimensionals and some Liquid Glue.

The finishing touch is a silver Year of Cheer Embellishment, tucked under the sentiment with a Glue Dot!

On the inside, I used  my DIY “champagne” embossing powder to heat emboss the second sentiment from Cheers to the Year on a Whisper White panel.  Then I added another couple of snowflakes, heat embossed in White (in the bottom right corner – incredibly hard to see.  Sorry! 🙁 ).

I Fast Fuse’d the panel to a Champagne Foil mat and into my Thick Whisper White card base and the card was done.

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got another pair of Cheers to the Year embossed snowflakes on the front…

…and some Year of Cheer Specialty DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  Although CAS isn’t usually my cup of tea – I really like how this turned out!  Cheers to the Year gives you Christmas sentiments as well as more year-round sentiments useful for weddings or anniversaries.  And there’s even a New Year’s greeting!  So…very versatile!  And we have such beautiful metals to work with!  Hope you like!

Finn-Fan Fix

There’s a lot of cleanup to do after a hurricane almost comes thru your house.

Trees.  Limbs.  Sticks everywhere!

Wayne is working to get things cleaned up – so, Finn is, too!

It’s not easy…

But he’s a trier and a doer – so he perseveres!

He’s a good helper to have around!

  1. You know, CAS, is my least fave too…BUT, I will be CASEing this one! Love it!! Joy is what we felt this morning not waking up to soaked sheets, not having to drive to another house to make our coffee, and not having to sit outside in 200% humidity/78 degrees at 7:30 a.m. Added bonus…not seeing your card and Finn on a tiny little phone 🙂 Not only joyful that we don’t have to do all those things, but thankful we were able to do them. Keep on bringing joy to my life, Miss Mary 🙂

    • Oh my goodness, Karen! What wonderful news this morning! I KNOW how grateful you are for all the things that come with power – namely AIR CONDITIONING and COFFEE!! Whoo-Hooo!!! Thanks so much for the kind words – and so happy you’re back! 🙂

  2. Beautiful card Mary! I love the embossed snowflakes on the background, fantastic design too! 🙂 Finn is too funny…he is a very helpful guy, picking up big sticks is an important job!

  3. Simply Stunning! Love how you used the foil snowflake!!

  4. Ellie Peckler

Mary, I have learned that CAS is not your first choice, but I appreciate those cards for my style (tee hee). Your choice of colors and layers are lovely. You are lucky indeed that Finn is so willing and able to help! – Ellie

  5. Kate

Sometimes less is more…and you nailed it with this one!
Hmmm…pick-up-stix…Finn is an expert, and I am sure well appreciated by his Dad. Now if he could just saw up the big stuff and move it to its destination…

  6. But does he put the sticks where you want them? If so, you did indeed win the dog lottery. If not, he gets and A for trying.
Love your card. With you and Amy in the challenge, I will pass. Unless I change my mind. 🙂
Glad to hear Karen and others are getting back the AC and coffee making abilities.

    • Weeeeellll, no. Not so much. That’s an advanced move that we haven’t mastered yet. Baby steps! I know the Floridians are awful happy to have that AC back! Thanks, Julie! 😊

  7. Such an elegant card…..loving the summer and shine! And Finn seems to know what he is doing! Glad you joined us at FMS!

  8. What a great Christmas card! Love that gold snowflake and the big sentiment! Thanks for joining us this week at Freshly Made Sketches!
