Stampin’ Up! Seasonal Layers Glamper Greetings

Hey, y’all!  Guess what day it is?

No, silly – not Hawwmp Day (thank goodness!) – it’s FRIDAY!!  I say again – thank GOODNESS!!! 🙂

This Sunday is our local All Things Stamping Sale.  Maybe – maybe! – I’ll have everything priced and in some sort of semblance of order and have some sort of shot at getting it all there and set up.  Be thinking good thoughts, y’all!!  I’ll need ’em!

My card for today is the result of another request from my Mom – I like requests.  It helps give me a focus and I need as much focus as I can get these days!  Her friend is leaving soon for vacation.  She’s going hiking and rafting in North India!!

Wow.

So – my mom wanted a card to wish her happy and safe travels.  I immediately thought of the Glamper Greetings stamp set – and went off in a bit of a rabbit hole.  I was determined to use the camper – I finally realized I was trying to force that, and quit.  The card got a lot easier right quick after that!  And I thought the adirondack chair in Seasonal Layers would be cool, too.  And then I saw a fun video from Patty Bennet doing a Glossy Paper “Faux Torn Edge” technique – and I knew what I needed to do.  You can see that video right here – check it – it’s great!  When I put it all together, here’s what I got.  Take a look-see:

My layout was inspired – sort of loosely! – on the challenge at CAS(E) This Sketch.  Turn your computer on its side…you’ll see it!

I started out with a piece of new Glossy White card stock and, turning it on its side, used the instructions from Patty’s video to make my background.  I tore a couple of sheets of used Grid Paper and made “ground” with Soft Suede – I just kept moving my paper along, turning it this way and that, and made what looks like – to me – a desert landscape.  When I’d gone about an inch or so, I tore another sheet – this one with some “mountains” and kept adding Soft Suede.

I turned the card around once – so I could keep swiping left to right (since I’m right-handed, that worked best for me), and used Pool Party for the sky.  Before I started my swiping, I used my 1 1/4″ Circle Punch to cut a hole in a sticky note.  I put the circle on the card stock to make a mask – for the sun.  Then I swiped my Pool Party sky.  Finally, I replaced my mask with the sticky note (with the hole) and swiped my sun with Crushed Curry.

I liked the “swipe” marks – to me it looks like wind blowing sand across dunes.  Which fits my – probably mistaken – mind picture of India! 🙂

I Fast Fuse’d the panel to a Soft Suede mat.

Next up, I used my old standby – Lovely as a Tree – and stamped some trees in Always Artichoke across the desert.  I stamped the image off once on scrap paper and then stamped it twice without re-inking on the card front.

I stamped the oh-so-appropriate sentiment from Glamper Greetings in Basic Black Archival Ink.  Then I wrapped some new Jute Twine (avail 1 Sept) around the card front twice, securing it in back with tape.

It occurred to me that clouds would be fun – so I added a few with the cloud mask from Pattern Party Decorative Masks and some Embossing Paste (due back in stock on 14 Aug!).

For my vertical element, I used some Liquid Glue to adhere a short length of 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon to the card front.

I cut a Stitched Shapes circle from a piece of Wood Textures DSP and a scalloped circle mat in Soft Suede – using a Circles Layering Framelits die.  I popped it all over the Jute Twine with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Using another piece of the Wood Textures DSP, I cut the Seasonal Layers adirondack chair and added it with Liquid Glue.

I added some Always Artichoke Enamel Shapes and a bow tied with a piece of Jute Twine and the card front was done. 🙂

On the inside, I pulled out another piece of Wood Textures DSP and stamped part of another sentiment from Glamper Greetings (also appropriate because last year she went to Mongolia!!) in Basic Black Archival Ink.  Since it’s a photopolymer stamp – it was easy to only ink up the portion of the sentiment I wanted.  I added a free extra ellipses to the end with my Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker.  Over the sentiment, I stamped the Lovely as a Tree image – in stamped-off-twice Always Artichoke.

I matted the panel on Soft Suede and Fast Fuse’d it into my Always Artichoke card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got another stamped-off-once Lovely as a Tree tree in Always Artichoke…

…and the envelope flap got another piece of Wood Textures DSP and a stamped-off-once tree.

Et Voila!  I’ve never been to India – northern or otherwise, but…I Googled it.  Perhaps this is close.  I love the sentiments in the Glamper Greetings set – they made this card exactly right (even without the camper!)  And who doesn’t love that Seasonal Layers chair?  Hope you like!

I also hope that you’ll check out the video and give this fun technique – on Glossy White Card Stock! – a try!

Finn-Fan Fix

Today I needed Finn to entertain himself.

Wayne had gone to work with our neighbor and didn’t take him cuz there’s nowhere for him to be that there’s not something for him to put in his mouth!

So he had to stay with mom.

Who had to work.

So…he slept.

And then he didn’t.

I started to hear complaints from the kitties.  I’d look over and he’d be…”helping” them move from one spot to another.

They mostly just stood there and griped.  And he wagged his tail.

A lot.

Finally, I took pity on the little panthers and got out the Treat Ball.

You stick little pieces of foul smelling…to humans…freeze dried beef liver into the ball.

Dog rolls ball.  Treats fall out.

Hard to get a clear shot cuz he’s moving fast! Finally, once he’d gotten about 5 treats – he decided to just corral it and rest a second.

And gnaw on it a bit.

  4. Beautiful job, Mary! It is a work of art, and I know it will be enjoyed by it’s intended recipient!

    • I love it on the Glossy White paper. I kept thinking I was on a photo – it’s such a cool paper and technique! Thanks so much! 🙂

  5. Kate Stockman

Your cards amaze me! The thought you put into them is perfect for the subject. Love Finn, he does so many of the same things our “Spoiled Aussie” does.

  6. Kate

It is the perfect card, Mary! Thank you.
Ah…resting nose on treat ball…while gathering second wind, no doubt. LOL

    • Thanks, Mom – I’ll get it out to you soonest. The other one is on the way. It doesn’t take him long to get the second wind – as long as the morning or afternoon nap isn’t looming… 🙂

  7. Lovely card, whether or not it is North India-ish. Who cares when it is so pretty, and anyway, it’s the thought that counts! Like that technique. Will have to try it, but first have to get some glossy paper. Hmm, wonder if my glossy photo paper would work?? Will try it. Thank you for another inspiration!

  8. Ellie Peckler

Mary, this is an outstanding creation. At first read, I mistakenly thought your mom’s friend was going to “Indiana,” wondering where one goes rafting there? Tee hee. Just ordered your holiday catalog share and, of course, I wanted it all! Have a great weekend, Ellie

    • LOL!! Indiana! Now THAT’S out there! JK. Finding a spot to raft there would be quite the adventure! Thanks so much, Ellie – hope your weekend is awesome! 🙂

  9. I thought it was the mountains in upstate New York…you know, the Adirondacks…because of the chair 😉 I watched Patty’s video and I’m going to try that technique. I have so much glossy photo paper, I’ll try it with that If it’s a fail, then I’ll order the paper from SU. Your card is wonderful and I’m sure your Mom’s friend will love it. We tried one of those balls with our kittah and she was totally bored…but that’s a cat for you! Finn is a smart, fun-loving boy.

    • He’s got plenty of play and food drive, so it’s the perfect combination toy! Thanks much, Karen – do try with the photo paper. What’s the worst that could happen?? 🙂

  10. Susan K

Wow! What a beautiful card! Love everything about it. Your mom is probably thrilled and her friend will love it. You are SO creative!
