Stampin’ Up! A Summer Bike Ride for the Amy’s Inkin’ Krew Team Blog Hop!

Good mornin’, y’all – welcome to another edition of Amy’s Inkin’ Knew team blog hop!  Each month we make projects centered around a theme – and this month is Celebrate Summer!!  We were given free rein to interpret that any way we liked….so, be sure to check out all the ladies’ blogs.  I know you’re going to see some awesome projects!

Being down here in Florida for this one, my mind sort of went to bike rides on the beach.  And, handily enough, we have a brand new stamp set and bundle that just’s the thing!  I used the Bike Ride stamp set and bundled Build A Bike Framelits for my offering today – take a look-see:

My layout and design elements were inspired by the sketch and photo from this week’s Fusion challenge.

I started with one of my very favorite wood designs in the Wood Textures DSP Stack – matting it on a piece of So Saffron card stock – for the card front.

Next up, I made two more – smaller – panels to work with the sketch (you can see I turned the sketch on its side), both are matted on So Saffron.  First, I adhered a length of 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon to the card front with Liquid Glue.  Then I SNAILd the first panel (which is another piece of Wood Textures DSP) over the top.

To build my “beach sign” I used a piece of Smoky Slate card stock and adhered four strips of colored card stock to it.  I used Tempting Turquoise, Flirty Flamingo, Bermuda Bay and Calypso Coral – and I lightly sponged their edges with Crumb Cake.  I adhered them all to the Smoky Slate panel and then ran the whole thing thru my Big Shot in the Pinewood Planks TIEF.

Then I stamped a sentiment from the Pieces & Patterns stamp set in Calypso Coral on the top “board”.  Upon further reflection – it would have been a little easier to stamp my sentiment and THEN emboss it in the TIEF.  But this way worked, too – although I did have to do a little touch up with my Calypso Coral Stampin’ Write Marker. 😉  I adhered it to its So Saffron mat and added it to the card front with Fast Fuse.

And then it was Build a Bike (framelit) time!  I stamped the parts of the bike on Whisper White, using a bunch of the fun images in the Bike Ride stamp set.  The bike is in So Saffron, with Smoky Slate and Bermuda Bay tires.  I cut the front basket from a piece of Smoky Slate card stock.  The dog, books and flowers bunches were all stamped in Chocolate Chip and then colored with various Stampin’ Write Markers (So Saffron, Pool Party, Flirty Flamingo, Daffodil Delight).  I even cut some So Saffron “streamers” and adhered them to the handlebars!

I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to pop the bike on top of my “beach sign” – then added the books and pooch with Dimensionals and the two flower bunches with Liquid Glue and Dimensionals.  The final touch is a tiny Linen Thread bow, adhered with a dab of Liquid Glue.  And that was it for the card front!

On the inside, I added another flower bunch from the Bike Ride stamp set in Chocolate Chip – and colored it in with Daffodil Delight and Flirty Flamingo Markers – to a Whisper White panel.

I Fast Fuse’d the panel to a So Saffron mat and into my Chocolate Chip card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got another Bike Ride flower bunch on the front…

…and I added some more Wood Textures DSP to the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  I think a bike ride on the beach – with my books, some flowers and my dog (pretend it’s Finn!)  – would be a nice way to spend a summer day.  Except for the lack of air conditioning! 😉  So…I’ll get my beach ride fix with the cool new Bike Ride stamp set and Build a Bike Framelits!  Hope you like!

  1. CLEVER! Love the way you interpreted the sign. I really like the way your brain works, but mine doesn’t. It definitely says summer.l

  2. I love the “beach sign”, Mary. Cool idea with the bicycle. Looks like fun, and you even have Finn along for the ride! 🙂

  3. How cute! Love the little puppy riding the bike, love your background too! 🙂

    • Thanks much, Amy! Now – go ride a bike by the beach in Phuket! Or…maybe best to stay close to the A/C!! 🙂

  4. The minute I saw your card, I knew you had entered the Fusion challenge! I like the flipped version and you just HAVE to win. The way you did the colors on the smoky slate mat was fantastic. It’s a really cool card but yet it’s hot 🙂 Perhaps today I will get to make another card. Yesterday was spent having fun with my guys and organizing my inks, sponges, daubers and cardstock. I had to have an accurate inventory before I place my first order as a demonstrator 😉

    • Yes, ma’am! An accurate inventory is essential to making sure you use that 20% discount wisely!! Thanks so much for the kind words, Karen! Have fun crafting today! 🙂

  5. Kate

Off to the beach with books and the dog. Perfect!

  6. Love your card, Mary! I can just see the breeze blowing through the puppy’s ears!

  7. Karen L.

Cute card……..have been pondering if I NEED that bike builder stamp set………..HMMMMMMMMM! But, I can’t imagine Finn on the back………..you will need side wheels to keep you upright, I think. Might be a load!!

  8. So cute!! I love how you mirrored the beach sign colors behind the bike. So clever!!

  9. Susan K

That’s just one cool card! I’m with Julie–I’m amazed at how your brain works. Mine must be stuck inside the box! Love it all.

    • Thanks so much, Susan!! Sometimes I wish my brain would get a little closer to the box!! Cardmaking would go a lot quicker!! 🙂

  10. Great colors on the beach sign, Mary. Love all the special details on your card.
