Stampin’ Up! Label Me Lovely Florals Birthday Card

Hey, y’all!  It’s the weekend!  My last weekend home for a while.  This time next week, I’ll be on my way to Florida.  For a couple of months!

Got a lot to get done between now and then, on top of still working every day.  But today, I’m headed to get my pre-trip hair cut (got to last me until I get home again!) and make a last trip to Costco.  There are no Costco’s in Ft. Walton Beach.  Have to drive about 2 hours to get to one.  Can you imagine??

And when I get home, I have this to tackle….

Yep – it’s Share Cutting Weekend!!  And weeknight….and early mornings…. got to get them all chopped up and in the mail to y’all!! 🙂

Should have been working on that this afternoon – but instead, I was making a card.  Cuz that’s what I really wanted to do!  I used my Label Me Pretty stamp set and a little of the pretty Fresh Florals DSP in Powder Pink.  Take a look-see:

My layout was inspired – although I didn’t do a square card – by this week’s Mojo Monday sketch.

And the color scheme – one of my favorites! – is from the Color Throwdown.

I started with a Powder Pink floral paper from the new Fresh Florals DSP and matted it on Night of Navy (yes, I know – it looks like Black in the picture, but…it’s not!).

The next layer is a piece of Whisper White that I embossed in the Petal Burst TIEF and SNAILd – with the DE-bossed side up – on Night of Navy and then SNAILd to the card front.

For the next strip, I used the other side of the first Fresh Florals DSP paper, SNAILing it to Night of Navy mat and then to the card front.

I wrapped a length of Powder Pink 1/2″ Finely Woven Ribbon around the whole thing, securing it in the back with some scotch tape.

My sentiment, from the new Label Me Pretty stamp set, is heat embossed in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder on a piece of Whisper White and cut out with an oval Stitched Shapes Framelit.  I SNAILd it to a scalloped-edge oval that I’d cut with an Ovals Layering Framelit.  I lightly colored the flowers in the design with Powder Pink ink that I picked up from the lid of my ink pad with a Blender Pen.

I popped the finished sentiment over the ribbon with some Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Finally, I tied a bow with some more of the Powder Pink 1/2″ Finely Woven Ribbon and attached it with a Glue Dot – and the card front was done!

On the inside, I enlisted the help of a pretty flower image from the Touches of Texture stamp set, stamping it in Powder Pink in the middle of a Whisper White panel.  When it was completely dry, I heat embossed a single-word-sentimet from… the Beautiful You stamp set…in gold.

I SNAILd the panel to a Night of Navy mat and into my Thick Whisper White card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got a few more Touches of Texture flowers in Powder Pink across the front…

…and then I added some more of the Powder Pink Fresh Florals DSP to the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  Isn’t that Label Me Pretty image such a pretty floral sentiment?  Maybe that’s why SU! put “Pretty” in the name!?!  And I think it works perfectly in embossed gold with the Night of Navy and the Fresh Florals DSP!  Hope you like!

Finn-Fan Fix…

Ladies and Gentlemen (assuming there’s at least one gentleman out there!!) – may I introduce….

Michael “Finn” Phelps!!

Yes.  That’s him.  Finn Phelps!

He figured out today why they call it “dog paddling!”

He ended up swimming sort of by accident and then….realized…it was fun!

So he kept going back out and swimming around and around!  And then he’d fly out of the pond to come tell me how much fun swimming is.

And then…back to the pond!

Michael Phelps has the fly.  Finn has the paddle.

And…can Michael bring a stick back in his mouth?

Well, okay.  Probably.  He’s a heckuva swimmer.

But he’s not nearly as cute as my little paddler!!

Love the card!! It’s feminine but not too “frilly”.

  2. Karen K

Beautiful card. I love all the layers. I definitely have to try it and today’s the perfect rainy day to do that. Will you still be doing Sunday night videos in Florida?

    • Sounds like a great crafty-day!! Enjoy. And yes, I’ll still be doing videos. I suppose the schedule might wiggle a little depending on what’s going on at work – but I’ll let everyone know if the time changes!! 🙂

  3. tsurutadesigns1

    Wow, you’re a busy lady!
LOVE your card, all the panels are wonderful!

  4. Ellie Peckler

A really beautiful card, Mary. And an especially amusing Finn Fan Fix. Have a great weekend! – Ellie

  5. Kathleen VanDeVeere

    Oh…VERY pretty card. Love it!
And am sincerely hoping Finny Phelps only finds sticks in the pond, ‘cuz I know it is inhabited by more flexible long things that would surely catch his attention.

  6. Beki Rich

I love the contrast between the pink and the night of navy, nice card. Yay for Finn, happy for him to discover a new fun thing to do, we have always had labs and they are always in any amount of water, even a wide tire track filled with water and mud. Will we miss you for two months or will you work from there? Hope it is a fun trip.

    • Yep – he loves the water. Even more than my last lab mix did! 🙂 I’ll work and blog from Florida – the advantage to driving is I can take as much as I can fit in the rental car. We’re good packers!! 😉 Thanks, Beki!

  7. Elisha

Such a beautiful card! I need to get me some of that DSP! Wow, Mary – you have quite the “to do” list! Hope all goes as planned – can’t wait for my share😉 Lol! Finn Phelps is quite the paddler!! It was only a matter of time!😂

    • Doing shares is a double-edged thing – a lot of work, yes – but I get see/feel/touch/admire every single new paper/ribbon/trim!! I just need to stop oohing and ahhhing and chop!! 🙂 Finn Phelps – yes, he’s loving swimming!! Thanks much, Elisha! 🙂

  8. So very pretty, Mary! Love it!

  9. I’m so glad you took the time to make this beautiful card. If I lived closer, I’d help you do the shares…looks like a lot of work and concentration. I mapped Ft. Walton from here…almost 8 hours. Atlanta is just as close 🙂 and then we’d get to see Finn and the rest of the Deatherages!

    • Thanks so much, Karen! 8 hours. Yikes! Well – we’ll have to plan a road trip in the Fall! We’ve got a spare room and everything!! And Finn’s a heckuva good host! 🙂

  10. Absolutely stunning Mary! I love your card today, the layering is perfect and so are the colors. And wow…that’s a lot of ribbon to chop up. Have fun cutting and wrapping and cutting and wrapping and cutting some more!! Hope that you’ve talked Wayne into helping. 😉

I don’t want to say you outdid yourself, but this is certainly at the top of the list of cards that I really, really like! I am loving the powder pink, and I am not really a pink person. Did I tell you I am a green person, except, ahem, of course, that awful LLT! Beautifully feminine without being overdone.

    • Darn it! I should have found a spot to put some Lemon-Lime Twist! Then it would have been PERFECT! LOL! Thanks much, Julie! 🙂

  12. Susan K

I’ve never paid any attention to the Label me Pretty stamp set but that stamp and your use of it is beautiful! That pretty new paper sets a great background for it too. Glad you took time to create for us but wow, you have your work cut out for you (yeah, maybe pun intended!). Does Finn go with you to FL? Months? I couldn’t take enough stuff in a car to be gone months!

    • I wish wish wish he could go with me. But – since he’s not a service dog – he can’t go to work with me. So he’d be in a kennel in the hotel all day. Not his idea of fun, I don’t think. He’ll miss me, but…he’ll be better off here. Hopefully he’ll remember me when I get home! I do take a lot of stuff. Always look for a big car. Sometimes I scrimp on clothes… Thanks much, Susan! 🙂

  13. Cindy Wilson

Hope FT Walton is cooler than Dunedin, Fl……It will be raining most of the week and it is just a little muggy but now too bad today…..Wish Ft. Walton wasn’t so far away….It would be fun to meet you!!
Good Luck on your job of getting your Stampin Share ready to ship…..I am looking forward to getting mine!!! God Bless and safe trip!!! Cindy in Florida

    • Thank you so much, Cindy! I wish I was going to be closer, too – I think it would be fun to get together! One day, perhaps! I hope to get the shares out by Thursday at the latest!! 🙂
