Stampin’ Up! Window Box Medallion Thank You Card

Well, good morning, y’all!  We’re making our way thru the week pretty fast, heh?  My bachelor time is almost over…yep, it’s true.  Wayne and his mom will be on their way back to Hot Springs today.  We’ll see if she persuades him to stay an extra couple of days to help her there!  I confess I’m not sure what I’m hoping for…I had a few more things in my “what I want to eat when Wayne’s not here” pile!  I had my spaghetti squash chow mein tonight – it was good!  And some green curry chicken last night…

I’m not crushing the card making the way I’d hoped to while he was gone, but…it is what it is, huh?  The one I made for today…well, I got way more wrapped around the axle over it than I should have.  Ended up making it like…1 and a half times!  I used the Window Box Thinlits and the Make a Medallion stamp set along with some Playful Palette DSP and the new Bermuda Bay Glimmer Paper.  Take a look-see:

This layout was inspired by this week’s Mojo Monday sketch…

And my colors are from the Global Design Project color challenge – this is a Bermuda Bay kind of week, isn’t it??

I also played along with the Just Us Girls Word Week Challenge:

And finally, I thought I’d play along again with The Paper Players – these little die cuts were a little persnickety and I did so many of them…figured I’d submit the result!

I started out with a piece of Playful Palette DSP in Peekaboo Peach, matted on Bermuda Bay.  For the center strip, I took a piece of Very Vanilla card stock and embossed it in the Boho Chic TIEF.  I SNAILd it to the card front and then ran two lengths of Bermuda Bay 1/8″ Stitched Ribbon down either side, securing them in the back with scotch tape.  I thought that would be a fun departure from a regular “mat”!

I made the little squares by first cutting the Bermuda Bay Glimmer Paper with a scallop die from the Squares Layering Framlits.  Then I ran them each back thru the Big Shot with one of the small square dies from the Window Box Thinlits.  The first time I laid this out, I cut the little squares from plain Bermuda Bay card stock.  Didn’t like it.

Started over!

I used Liquid Glue to adhere each shiny square to a matching scalloped square of Early Espresso.  Then I popped all the squares on the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The sentiment is from the Make a Medallion stamp set (Sale-A-Bration).  I stamped the first image in Bermuda Bay, the second in Peekaboo Peach and the third – yes, the third image that can make the medallion a little bit “more”! – in Early Espresso.  And I stamped the sentiment in Early Espresso as well.

I cut the Medallion out with a circle die from the Circles Layering Framelits and used Liquid Glue to adhere it to an Early Espresso scalloped circle.  Then I popped that on with more Stampin’ Dimensionals.

My little embellishment is some strands of thread pulled from a piece of 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon, adhered with Liquid Glue.  I topped it with a tiny bow tied from Peekaboo Peach 3/8″ Ruched Ribbon.  And that was it for the card front! 🙂

On the inside. I started with a Very Vanilla panel.  Across the bottom, I used the Bermuda Bay card stock Window Box die cuts that I’d made and not used to stencil some pattern in Bermuda Bay ink.

See why I have a couple of pretty Sticky Note holders?  I go thru them like crazy!  They make such great masks!

Once I’d stenciled in the two bottom corners, I ran a length of Peekaboo Peach 3/8″ Ruched Ribbon and one of the Bermuda Bay 1/8″ Stitched Ribbon over them, securing both ribbons in the back with scotch tape.

I SNAILd the panel to a Bermuda Bay mat and into an Early Espresso card base, SNAILd the card front on and the card was done.

My Medium Very Vanilla Envelope got three more of the Bermuda Bay stenciled patterns across the front…

…and a little more of the Playful Palette DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  This was one of those color challenges that was difficult for me to do – these aren’t colors I’d choose to put together all by my lonesome.  But…they ended up working out okay!  And I am just in love with the Make a Medallion stamp set and I hope you’ve all gotten it for yourself.  Can you believe there’s only four weeks of Sale-A-Bration left?!?  Yikes! 🙂

FINN-FAN FIX….

It’s come to my attention that there could be some unintended consequences to teaching your young, a little too smart, independent thinking Aussie that no obstacle is too much to conquer.  Go over it, under it, thru it, or across it.  Climb it.  Slide down it.  Jump it.

Doesn’t matter.  You can get to the other side.

Cuz there’s a mini-milk-bone waiting there!

Yes, that’s him standing at the top of the little stairs next to my chair.

No – they’re not for me!

Sheesh.

They’re for my two little old kitties so they can climb them and get on my lap.

Or for my 9 month old puppy who’s so jealous of them (cats, not stairs) he can hardly stand it!

Works for them, Mom – why not me!?!

But – he’s not quite figured out how to transition from the stairs to my lap.  When I finally gave in and moved the computer, he had to jump down and come around so he could leap into my lap.

I doubt it’ll take him long to figure out the other way to get there. 😉

  1. Love the way you did the stenciling. Your dinner sounded yummy. No one but me here likes spaghetti squash so I never make it. Rarely do I find it on a menu either 🙁 Finn is so handsome in this pose. Have a great day. It will be a good one for me because I’m ordering the parts to your gorgeous card!

    • I know – no recipe that starts with spaghetti squash or Bok Choi is a good idea when he’s here! 🙂 And nope, I’ve not seen it in a restaurant either! Thanks so much, Karen – can’t wait to see what you make with your new goodies! 🙂

  2. Your medallion is beautiful, Mary! I love that stenciling, too. Way cool!

  3. Such a pretty card Mary! They aren’t colors that I would have put together either, but they’re beautiful! Mr Finn is too funny, love that he’s trying to be a lap cat. 😉

  4. Karen L.

Hey, I do the same thing!! Fix food that I enjoy & my husband doesn’t!! He goes on an annual fishing trip to Canada with the boys……..I get to control the TV remote, eat different food, get dressed when I want to, watch chick flisks & etc, etc! I don’t think I would use those colors on my own either. Just a question……are those candles upside down or are they rockets?? 🙂

    • Well, I’m starting to think we need a “Wives who like spending some time alone” club!! We’ll have a secret handshake and everything! 🙂 Upside down candles?!? Of course not! They’re quite obviously rockets, as you so cleverly deduced! That’s so funny – I didn’t even see them as candles!! LOLOLOL!! Let’s just pretent they’re just shapes or rockets, shall we?? Thanks for the chuckle, Karen! 🙂

  5. Gorgeous card! Such a detailed background, with great layering and amazing color combo. Thank you for joining us at Paper Players!

  6. Elisha

Beautiful, beautiful card! That medallion is stamped perfectly! The Early Espresso really sets it off👍 And you really rocked (err…rocketed?) the glimmer paper! Lol! Love it! Finn must be such a joy to have around – some new antic every day😀 I LOVE spaghetti squash – especially since I found the perfect way to roast it😋

    • It was really good as Chow Mein!! Even with no meat! 🙂 Yea- rockets. Sheesh, Mary! And yes – he’s a fun soul. Unless you just want to veg and watch a show but he hasn’t succumbed to his need for a nap…. 😉 Thanks, Elisha!!
