Well, it’s Friday again – and it’s Friday before a three-day weekend! Whoo-hoo! As with all Friday’s before a long weekend – I have delusions of grandeur about all the things I just know I’ll get done. And I bet I get….just a smidge over none of them done! 🙁 But. I’m going to try!
So I know you guys have me figured out. You probably suspect that I buy too many toys, beds, treats and anything else you can think of for my 4-legged children. Especially (at least right now), for Finn. He’s got a more expensive bed in his kennel than I sleep on. Yes – it’s a hand-me-down from Buck, but…still!
Finn has, of late, shown some…reluctance to go to bed. I suspect he thinks he’s trustworthy enough to spend the night roaming at large.
For the record…he’s not.
But, he now trudges into the kennel, grudgingly taking the milk bone treat I give him, and then flinging himself down in disgust. And if he sometimes flings himself in a way that leaves him obviously uncomfortable, well….he sucks it up until a decent amount of time has passed and he can re-arrange. Saving face, as it were.
I completely meant to land this way…
Once he feels he’s made his point, he turns around, flops into his usual position and is asleep in a wink.
And sleeps all night. Dogalous goofalus. 🙂
So – my card. A friend of mine is going thru a bit of a rough patch in her family, so I’m planning to send her a few SU! goodies to play with and a cheery card. She’s a California girl – currently living in rain! – so I figured I’d go beach-y. Day at the Beach, to be exact! And it paired really well with some Cupcakes & Carousels Specialty DSP. Take a look-see:
I used the current sketch challenge at CAS(E) This Sketch for my layout.
And I got a little inspiration from the 2017 Occasions Catalog – always a good source of ideas when your brain is fried from editing documents and adjudicating stupid comments all day! Ooops – I mean….adjudicating thoughtful, cogent comments, with hugely important impact to the final outcome of the program. 😉
I started by SNAILing a piece of the Cupcakes & Carousels Specialty DSP on a Calypso Coral mat. My art panel is a piece of So Saffon card stock. Using the sun image in the new Day at that Beach stamp set, I stamped So Saffron suns a few times across the panel.
I used the Daffodil Delight Watercolor Pencil to add shading to each of the suns – just straight Watercolor Pencil on these. No blender pen or Aqua Painter.
I SNAIld the panel to a Calypso Coral mat and popped it on the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Once again using the sun from Day at the Beach, I stamped it twice in So Saffron on Whisper White and fussy cut them. I used the Daffodil Delight pencil again to add just a touch of shading and then adhered them to the panel with Liquid Glue.
Before I added the sentiment, I cut a Stitched Shapes Framelit oval in Bermuda Bay and adhered it to the card front.
For the sentiment, I used the Labeler Alphabet and stamped the letters in Bermuda Bay on So Saffron card stock. Recognize that sentiment? Yep – it’s one of the ones in the Beautiful You stamp set!
What? You thought I came up with that all by my lonesome??! LOL.
I snipped each word and adhered them to the Stitched Shape oval.
The final touch is a little bow tied with some Baker’s Twine from the Cupcakes & Carousels Embellishment Kit. It comes with two twines – one is Pool Party and Gold and one is So Saffron and Gold. I couldn’t decided which to use – so I used them both, and stuck the bow on with Liquid Glue.
On the inside, I stamped another So Saffron Day at the Beach sun on Whisper White – shading it with my Daffodil Delight Watercolor Pencil. Then I added the beach umbrella – in stamped-off-once Bermuda Bay. That one I shaded with the Bermuda Bay Watercolor Pencil and a Blender Pen.
Using my Crumb Cake Stampin’ Write Marker, I added a little “sand” under the umbrella. I SNAILd the panel to a Calypso Coral mat and into my So Saffron card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done.
My Whisper White Medium Envelope got that sun again…
…and I added more of the Cupcakes & Carousels DSP to the envelope flap – taking care to get the design onto the flap juuuuussst right.
Et Voila! I think this one will bring a smile to her face – it did for me! Day at the Beach has some cute little images in it – and I love the shabby/distressed vibe of the Cupcakes & Carousels Specialty DSP! Hope you like!

Thanks, Julie! 🙂
Hi Mary 🙂 As usual, your card is awesome! I’m just curious about your envelope flaps. They are so cute! Do you have a template you use to cut them out all the time? What’s your secret? Inquiring minds want to know 😉
Thanks very much, Kim. Envelope flaps – too easy! I run a thin line of the Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue around the edge of the flap, lay my DSP over top and fussy cut around the edges. On normal cards – I line the edge of the DSP up with the top edge of the flap – so I only have to trim around the bottom. On this particular card, I wanted the sunburst to radiate up on the flap – so I put the edge of the DSP at the bottom, and trimmed a little excess from both sides of that as well as across the top of the flap. Make sense? 🙂
You’re so creative! 🙂 I’m too lazy to fussy cut. My thoughts go to my Silhouette and how I can make a template so the machine can cut it for me 😉
No see? That’s where my eyes would cross! Glad that works for you, Kim!! Thanks so much! 🙂
I am sure your friend will be heartened by your cheerful bright card!
Ah…the dog body language. Sometimes I wonder if Clara’s pretzel pose isn’t meant to convey her displeasure with not being invited to the recliner.
LOL – may be!! They’ve only got so many ways to voice their opinion! And I prefer this one to some other less….palatable!…ways!! Thanks, Mom! :_
Very cute! The bright colors and sentiment will definitely lift her spirits. Awesome! 🙂
Thanks, Amy! 🙂
What a cheerful card – I’m sure it will do the trick:-). The envelope flap – perfection! Enjoy your 3 day weekend!! My daughter’s dog flops down with a humph to express his displeasure – too funny!
I think it’ll give her a smile. With a Humph! Exactly what he does!! Thanks so much, Elisha! 🙂
Beautiful and cheery for sure! Excellent job on the envelope flap, too. What a thoughtful card for a friend!
Thanks so much, Jari! 🙂
The picture of your dig and the write-up totally made me snails this not!
Wonderful card! Great take on the sketch!
LOL, Leigh! I think your autocorrect got you! But…I think I got your drift. 🙂 Thanks so much! 🙂
