Stampin’ Up! Succulent Garden Birthday Sneak Peek for the Celebrate Blog Hop

Good morning, y’all – welcome to this month’s Amy’s Inkin’ Krew Blog Hop – we’ve got a Celebrate theme today! That’s pretty wide open – especially since Amy said we could interpret the theme however we liked!  I hope you’ll spend some time scrolling thru all the Blog Hoppers’ offerings today!

I just did another pre-order from the 2017 Occasions catalog and I got the long-awaited (for me!) Oh So Succulent stamp set and the bundled Succulent Framelits.  And since I was allowed to order everything (just a little perk of being a Demonstrator!) I got a pack of the beautiful Succulent Garden DSP.  All these products make up the Succulent Garden Suite.  Since I had them and had been itching to use them….I used them for my card today!  Take a look-see:

Now, if you guys knew me at all, you’d know that birthdays aren’t really my thing.  Your birthday, yes.  My Mom’s?  Yes.  Wayne’s?  Yes.  Mine?  Not so much.  I prefer that they just come and go with little (read…NO) fanfare.  I’m not a fan of being that kind of center of attention.  At all.  Which means that doing a birthday card is an acknowledgment that for most people – a birthday IS a celebration!

So, to make this card, I started with some of the Succulent Garden DSP.  But it was a little much for my card, so I decided to cover it with a piece of Vellum card stock.  To begin my layering of images, I heat embossed a couple of the dangle-y images from Oh So Succulent in Gold and Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  Over that, I stamped some flower images in Sweet Sugarplum and Old Olive.  Be sure to give the ink time to dry on the Vellum!  Using my Fine-Tip Glue Pen, I added the Vellum over top of the Succulent Garden DSP – making sure to keep the glue where I knew it would be covered up by my decorations.

Next up is a new Lace Doily, adhered with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue onto the Vellum.  I then added a little loop and tail of new Whisper White Succulent Garden 3/8″ Ribbon.  I made the loop with a handheld stapler and then adhered it over the lace doily with more Liquid Glue.

For the little flowers you can see peeking out behind the large focal flower, I stamped a couple of images in Crumb Cake and Old Olive – using full strength ink for the outline images and stamped-off-once ink for the “fill-in” images.  Then I cut them out with the matching Succulent Framelits and adhered them with Liquid Glue.

Finally – finally! – it was time to make the big statement flower!  I started by cutting a medium flower from Blushing Bride and Sweet Sugarplum and a smaller flower in the same colors, so I had 4 flowers.  Using Whisper White Craft Ink, I used the little stamp image in the Oh So Succulent set to add the points on each of the flowers.  Then I curled them all a little with my bone folder and adhered them in a stack with Liquid Glue.

I cut two smaller “center” Sweet Sugarplum flowers and added them to the….well, center!…of the flower.  Then I added a Rhinestone Basic Jewel.  I stuck a few Stampin’ Dimensionals on the back of the flower and used them to wind some loops of Linen Thread, then popped it on the card front.

My sentiment, from the Oh So Succulent set, is heat embossed in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder on a strip of Whisper White.  I snipped a banner end on the right side, edged the strip with my Sweet Sugarplum Stampin’ Write Marker and adhered it to the card front with Liquid Glue.  Then I added a few Rhinestone Basic Jewels and the card front was done!

On the inside, I stamped a small flower in Sweet Sugarplum in the bottom corner.  I used full strength ink for the outline and stamped-off-once ink for the fill.  Then I made a sticky note mask, covered the flower and stamped a couple of Old Olive flowers over the top.

I SNAILd the panel to a piece of Sweet Sugarplum and Old Olive card stock, then SNAILd it into my Crumb Cake card base.  I double matted the card front in the same way, popped it on the card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals – and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got the same flowers on the front that I’d used on the inner liner…

…and more of the Succulent Garden DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  From the moment I saw this Suite previewed at the OnStage event in November, I knew this one was going to be a winner.  And I waited anxiously for the full-up Pre-Order period to start!  I hope you like – and will put this one on your “must have” list!
