Hey y’all! Well – it’s over. We’ve seen the new 2017 Occasions Catalog. We’ve perused the 2017 Sale-A-Bration Flyer. We laughed and whoo-hoo’d.
Yes. Even me.
I’ve pre-ordered some goodies – so I’ll have them to begin sharing projects with you soon!
Tomorrow afternoon – around 3pm Eastern time, I’ll be able to share pictures of the projects displayed at OnStage. All made with the fun new products we’ll see in January!
You’re gonna like ’em – I promise! There’s a little sumpin’ sumpin’ for everyone! And of course – everyone loves Sale-a-bration!
Y’all know about the wonderful background stamp called Merry Medley, right? So, one of the fun ideas we saw on Friday at the WCMD event was from Pam Morris. She had taken her Merry Medley stamp and cut it apart into several – maybe….8? 9? – separate stamp sets. Look at the projects she made for us!
Fun, right? Now – full disclosure – I wouldn’t do this with my only copy of this stamp. I like it way too much as a background stamp. But – if it continues into the Annual Catalog (fingers crossed!) – you can bet I’ll be ordering a second one and cutting it right up! 🙂
But for now….I used Merry Medley in it’s “whole” form and the host-exclusive set Holly Jolly Layers, paired with some Candy Cane Lane DSP to create a fun card. Take a look-see:
The design for this card comes from this Stamp Ink Paper challenge:
I started by simply SNAILing a piece of Crumb Cake paper from the Candy Cane Lane DSP onto a Real Red card stock mat (yes, Real Red – Crumb Cake – White. Again. Cuz it’s good!!)
Then I pulled out Merry Medley and inked it up with Real Red ink. Then I laid a strip of Crumb Cake card stock onto the stamp. With these large background stamps it’s often easier to lay the stamp rubber-side-up on your work surface, ink it up, and lay your card stock on top. Then press/rub all over to transfer the image to the card stock. With the image on the card stock, I SNAILd it to a Real Red mat and then to the card front.
Then I added a piece of Real Red Stitched Edge Ribbon, securing it in the back with scotch tape.
The sentiment, from Holly Jolly Layers – is stamped in Versamark on a piece of Crumb Cake CS, sprinkled with Real Red Glitter Stampin’ Emboss Powder, and heat embossed. When it was completely cool, I cut it with a scalloped square from the Squares Layering Framelits. I matted it on a larger scallop edge square and popped it over the ribbon with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and the card front was done.
I love this Glitter Embossing Powder – it comes in Emerald Envy, too! – it’s fine enough to use with a relatively detailed stamp and it works just like “regular” stampin’ emboss powder!
On the inside, I inked the little candy cane from Holly Jolly Layers in Versamark, stamped it in the corner of a Whisper White panel, and heat embossed it with more of the Real Red Glitter Stampin’ Emboss powder.
I SNAILd it to a Real Red mat and into my Whisper White card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!
For my Medium Whisper White Envelope, I added another Holly Jolly Layers candy cane to the front – again with the Glitter Stampin’ Emboss Powder…
…and added some more of the Candy Cane Lane DSP to the envelope flap.
Et Voila! Real Red and Crumb Cake come thru again – this time with a little sparkle! – and the Merry Medley stamp set instantly adds Christmas-y impact. Hope you like!

FYI, here are the measurements for the full cutout pieces for the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies:
- Circles:
1-3/8”
1-7/8”
2-3/8”
2-7/8”
- Squares:
1-3/16”
1-5/8”
2-1/8”
2-5/8”
- Ovals:
1-3/4” x 13/16”
2-1/4” x 1-5/16”
2-3/4” x 1-13/16”
3-1/4” x 2-5/16”
The stitched embossing is approximately 1/16” from the edge of the cutout. So the dimensions are approximately 1/8” smaller than the cutouts.

Cool design , Mary, and I love the red glitter! Oh so festive!!
Thanks, Jari – that glitter does have a nice medium sort of shine! Love it, too! 🙂
Instead of cutting up the background stamp, I would use markers to ink up the sentiment I wanted to use. Beautiful card, Mary! These reds really make me think of Christmas!
That’s how I’d have to do it, too! The nice thing about the cut up version was the ability to use the stamp-a-ma-jig to align the small sentiment. But…cutting it up seemed a little scary!! Thanks, Patricia – the red and crumb cake are indeed very Christmasy! 😊
Love the card……very nice combo of colors & the red glitter really is a nice touch! Sounds like you had a great couple of fun days & am looking forward to some peeks at what SU has in store for us.
We really did! And I can’t wait to share them. I WILL wait – cuz I have to – but it’s going to be hard! Thanks so much, Karen! 🙂
That’s awesome Mary! Love the design and you’ve layered it perfectly. Fantastic colors too! 🙂
Thanks, Amy. Tough to go wrong with Real Red, Crumb Cake and Whisper White! It’s just a natural! 🙂
What a beautifully designed Christmas card Mary! I love how the scallop edge on the ribbon mimics the scallop edge of the squares. Thanks so much for joining us at Stamp, Ink, Paper this week!
Thanks so much, Tina! 🙂
Very sophisticated.
Yep – that’s me. Sophisticated! 😉 Thanks, Mom! 🙂
Great job with the sketch this week Mary. Your Christmas card works perfectly. Thanks so much for joining us this week at Stamp, Ink, Paper. Carolyn xx
Thanks very much, Carolyn! 🙂
Hey! Congratulations on your win! Love your card! I don’t know if I could cut that stamp up either, but Pam certainly made some beautiful cards in doing so:-). Have a great week!
Thanks, Elisha! And yes, she sure did! It was really cool meeting you last week! 🙂
Oh Wow, Mary, you nailed my absolute favorite holiday colors together in this card! There is something about Red and Crumb Cake that just soothes my mind! Love it. Thanks for joining us at Stamp, Ink, Paper this week! xo Crystal
I know! It really is a perfect color combo for Christmas! Thanks so much, Crystal! 🙂
