Stampin’ Up! Leaflets, Petals, Paisleys & Posies….Oh My!

Happy Sunday, y’all!  I hope that your weekend is going well – maybe getting ready for the onslaught of little ghoulies and ghosties on Monday night?  We don’t get trick or treaters here – which I really kind of miss.  I enjoyed them coming by way back “in the day” when we lived in a neighborhood – our 1/3 mile driveway with a gate sort of puts kids off!  Although it would make for a heck of a Haunted Hay Ride! 🙂

I also hope you’re getting all ready to buy some Designer Paper and take advantage of my Ordering Special – the sale and the special both go away tomorrow night!  Read on down for the details….

We had a great day on Saturday – took Finn over for another playdate with Scout.  He had so much fun with her and the other dogs!  And he thinks Scout is the bees knees.

Why do people say bees knees?  I don’t even think bees have knees and if they do, why would they be any better than anyone else’s knees?  Why not “the elephant’s knees”?  Or…the “anteater’s knees”?  Things that make you say….hmmmmm…

But I digress.  Finn loves Scout and she thinks he’s pretty cool, too!

After we got some lunch, we took him with us to get feed.  First time at the Tractor Supply store – and he had a great time!  Met folks who petted him.  Sat down and politely accepted the treat the cashier gave him.  Sniffed every flavor of dog food and treats that were on the bottom shelves.

And got two new toys!!  Cuz….what’s the fun of going to the store if you don’t get a new toy? Or two!?

He’s an awfully good boy!

So, we all had a big day and he’s sleeping now while I share my card with you.  If you remember a couple weeks back I shared the October Paper Pumpkin cards….

…and said I was going to make another shaker card using my leftover sequins from the kit and some Vintage Leaves.  Well, today’s the day!  I used the Leaflets Framelits and the sentiment from Paisleys & Posies.  And added a little Petals & Paisleys DSP….and the Petal Burst TIEF.  Take a look-see:

I got a little help from two challenges for this one – the first is from Mojo Monday and helped with the layout of the card.

mm471-sketch
And the second challenge was a color challenge from Stamp Ink Paper.

sip-71-sketch
I started with a piece of Petals & Paisleys DSP to be the card front.  Using a second – Delightful Dijon – design I cut a large circle with the Circles Layering Framelits.  I SNAILd that to a scallop-edged circle of Copper Foil.  Then, using Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue, I adhered the circle to the bottom corner of the first piece of DSP.  I trimmed the excess with my Paper Trimmer and then SNAILd the whole panel to a mat of Copper Foil.

For the shaker element itself, I cut a scallop-edged square from Copper Foil using the Squares Layering Framelits.  I embossed that square in the Petal Burst TIEF.  The top of the shaker is a square of Very Vanilla – I cut the leaf with one of the dies in the Leaflets Framelits set.  It, too, got embossed in the Petal Burst TIEF.

I adhered a piece of Window Sheet to the back of the Very Vanilla square and then put pieces of Foam Adhesive Strips all around the back of it.  Then I piled some of the pretty sequins left over from the Paper Pumpkin kit onto the Copper Foil square, and adhered the Very Vanilla square of the top.  Then I used some Liquid Glue to add the shaker element to the card front.

I stamped some Vintage Leaves images in Versamark on Copper Foil and then heat embossed them in Copper.  Once they were completely cool, I cut them with their dies in the Leaflets set.  I used Liquid Glue and Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere them to the card front.

The sentiment is from the Paisleys & Posies stamp set.  I individually inked and stamped the words in Cajun Craze on Very Vanilla and then snipped them out.  I edged them with my Cajun Craze Stampin’ Write Marker, and then adhered them to the shaker with Liquid Glue

To finish the card front, I doubled a length of 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon and adhered it to the card front with a Stampin’ Dimensional.  I tied a little bow from Mint Macaron 3/8″ Sheer Linen Ribbon and adhered it to the Burlap with a Glue Dot.

On the inside, I inked the final word of the Paisleys & Posies sentiment in Cajun Craze – by covering the rest of the sentiment with Sticky Notes – and stamped it in the middle of a Very Vanilla panel.  Then I heat embossed a couple of Vintage Leaves in Copper.

I SNAILd the panel to a Copper Foil mat and then into my Cajun Craze card base, SNAILd the card front on, and the card was done!

My Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got another Vintage Leaf heat embossed in Copper on the front…

…and then I added some more of the Petals & Paisleys DSP to the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  Although there are a few steps to this one, they’re all easy-peasy.  The new Foam Adhesive Strips really take a lot of the pain out of making shaker cards.  And the embossing – both the folder and the heat embossing – really adds a lot of texture.  If you don’t have any of the sequins from the October Paper Pumpkin kit, you could use gold and silver from the Metallics Sequin Assortment and/or some Old Olive and Pumpkin Pie sequins from the Brights Assortment!  Hope you like!

  1. Wow Mary, that card is awesome!! Love the shaker and the pretty colors. The copper touches are beautiful too! Cute puppy, glad that he got some extra treats for being so good in the store! 🙂

  2. Mom

    Like these fall renditions!
Finn DID grow while you were away. I suspect Scout noticed too. I am not telling Clara it is possible to go with to the treat store. She would no doubt find that the anteater’s knees.

    • I guess he has – as I look back at the first pics we took…. Yea – I’d withhold that info from Clara…. Thanks, Mom! 🙂

  3. Ellie Peckler

What a striking card, Mary. I like hearing about Finn – what a good puppy. Can you tell me who Scout and Clara are? – Ellie

    • Thanks very much, Ellie! And yes, he’s a very good boy. Scout is my friend’s Aussie – same mom and dad as Finn, but she’s 2 now. Clara is my Mom’s Basset Hound! 🙂
