Stampin’ Up! Wonder of Seasonal Bells for Christmas!

Mornin’ y’all!  It’s Hawwwmp Day! 🙂

And – for the Deatherage family – it’s the middle of do-the-taxes week.  Yes, we always do our taxes in October.  For as long as we’ve been doing taxes together.

And I.  Hate.  Doing.  Our.  Taxes.  Almost as much as I hate housecleaning.  The only difference is the whole once-a-year versus the every-freakin’-week thing.

Doing the taxes makes me grumpy.  Like….Marcia-when-she-hasn’t-eaten-and-no-one-has-a-Snickers grumpy.  Like…PMSing-in-the-desert-in-a-dirty-house-while-hungry-like-Marcia-and-no-one-has-a-Snickers grumpy.  Catch my drift?

And – that grumpiness doesn’t really lend itself to creativity!  It really really wants that Snickers bar!

So, when I finally sat down to make a card, I wanted – nay…needed – a quick and easy something!  And I really thought I’d achieved my goal.  I combined some Seasonal Bells, and Wonder of Christmas, and a little Holly Berry Happiness – lots of easy punches! – and some Presents & Pinecones DSP.  Take a look-see:

This is from a sketch that came out a couple days ago, from Sunday Stamps, and I right away wanted to to do something with it.  Sunday Stamps Challenge #136:

ssc-136-sketch
To start, I SNAILd a piece of Presents & Pinecones DSP to a Cherry Cobbler mat.  Then I ran a piece of Whisper White card stock thru the Big Shot in the Holly TIEF, and sliced it into three strips.  I matted them all on Cherry Cobbler, and SNAILd them to the card front – being sure to attached them in the same order and orientation as they were before I cut the panel up.

Did that make sense?

For my bells, I inked two of the images from the Seasonal Bells stamp set in Versamark, stamped them on Whisper White card stock, and heat embossed them with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  Then I punched them with the bundled Bell Punch.  I gently rolled each bell – since bells are round and all that! – and adhered them together in bell-like fashion with some Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue at the top.

Next came the sentiment – which is from the Wonder of Christmas stamp set – stamped in Emerald Envy on Whisper White, and matted on Cherry Cobbler.  I adhered it over the triptych (that’s the fancy name for this kind of three-panel image!) with some Liquid Glue.

I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to pop the bells over the sentiment banner and then added a little silver holly sprig from the Christmas Trinkets Embellishments with a Glue Dot.  Over that, with another Glue Dot, I stuck a little bow tied from a piece of Cherry Cobbler Baker’s Twine and Gold Baker’s Twine.

The last piece is a little holly spring – which I made with the Holly Berry Happiness stamp set.  I stamped two of the small holly leaves in Emerald Envy, then added the outline image in Basic Black Archival Ink.  I stamped one of the berry-trio images in Cherry Cobbler and added the outline image.  Then I punched them all out with the bundled Holly Builder Punch, and adhered them to the end of the banner with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.  And that was it for the card front!

On the inside, I added a second sentiment from the Wonder of Christmas set, in Emerald Envy, on a panel of Whisper White.  I stamped some more Holly Berry leaves onto the panel, and then punched out another trio of berries and stuck it over the leaves with Liquid Glue.

I matted the panel on Cherry Cobbler and SNAILd it into my Emerald Envy card base.

At least….that was the plan.  Cuz…this is where the grumpiness and stress of tax day hit.

See anything wrong with the next picture?

Go ahead – take a minute.

No – it’s not the fact that it’s kind of crumpled up.

Get it yet?

Yep.  The card front is landscape.  This….this is most definetly not landscape! 🙁 🙁 🙁

I said bad words.  A lot of them.  And crumpled the danged thing up and tossed it.  And said a few more bad words.

Please note – I’d already cleaned up my stamps and put everything away – in a surfeit of (highly irregular!) neatness and organizational efficiency.

This did not make things better!

So, grumbling about Snicker’s bars and flat taxes,  I pulled everything back out and I re-did the panel.  And SNAILd it into my Emerald Envy card base.

I popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was….finally!…done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got two more Holly Berry Happiness sprigs on the front…

…and a little more Presents & Pinecones DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  This really was an easy card to make.  Really!  And the three-panel design is one of my favorites.  Hope you like! 🙂

get grumpy more often!  that is as  cute as can be.  thank you

  2. Elisha

Oh no!! Yes, I have done that too! Grrrrrrr…… Well, your card ended up perfect! I love it!

  3. Thanks, Elisha! The funny part (you know, where you chuckle a little and then push back a few sobs of frustration?) – is that I’d carefully made note of the fact that my front was landscape, fully planned to the inside the same and then…calmly set up my stamp-a-ma-jig for portrait. Hmm. Sleep-Card-Making, maybe?? 🙂

  4. I love it! Fantastic design and pretty colors. And your troubles with the inside cracked me up…I’d have chopped an inch off the top and bottom and added another layer of Cherry Cobbler under it and stuck it down. Then mentioned that I’d trimmed it down on the inside on purpose. 😉 Ha! Bummer that you had to restamp it, but it turned out beautifully!

  5. Huh. Totally didn’t think of that! By the time I hit that spot I was in semi-panic mode cuz it was way later than I like to still be making a card and not half way thru my blog post! You’ll remember I’m not a night-owl!! I will remember this for the future! Thanks, Amy! 🙂

  6. Mom

Lemonade from a sort of lemon. I would have probably tried to leave it and try to make a really weird envelope. So, how lucky is it that ’twas thee not me?!? Great card.

  7. Karen L.

Oh, Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!!! Oh, I feel that way so often…….but those darn Snickers never are available when I need them!! But, you did a nice save………it turned out great!! Well, you know what they say about “death & taxes”!!! I’ll take the taxes!!

  8. Well, I love your work when you’re grumpy! This is so, so pretty. I love the use of the bells!

  9. Thanks, Jaime! Sometimes even a grumpy squirrel finds a nut, huh?

  10. Monika Reeck
