Stampin’ Up! Botanicals One Big Meaning Thanks!

Update on 19 April:  I just found out that this card was picked as an Artist Pick at Hand Stamped Sentiments!  Many thanks to the talented ladies at HSS for picking my card out of all the beautiful ones submitted.  And congrats to all the picks.  You can see the other ladies’ cards here.

Hey, ya’ll – it’s Friday, which means that when you read this, I’ll still be asleep! Cuz of how I’m in Utah! At OnStage! I’m typing this on Thursday morning – I know that tonight, after the first session this afternoon – I’m going to be having pizza with a bunch of other SU! demos – and then collapsing in bed with a little light reading…

The 2016-2017 Annual Catalog!!! I’ll be flipping thru and marking everything I want (might be easier and take lots less ink to mark the things I don’t want!) and getting my pre-order in! I’ll probably even do the 2-day shipping – so I can start making projects and giving y’all a peek next week! (Update since I drafted this post on Thursday morning:  You’re seriously seriously SERIOUSLY going to love what’s in this new catalog.  I can’t start sharing any clues until Monday evening – but….trust me on this.  You need this new catalog as soon as you can get your hands on it!!)

Uh-oh…..I feel a Whooo-hoooo!! coming on! Yikes! 🙂 Update:  I did, in fact, “whoooo” a few times.  Don’t judge.  You would have, too. 😉

I wanted to share a couple more pics with y’all from our day on Wednesday. The home office is one of the prettiest buildings I’ve seen. Lots of wood paneling and crown molding. And the center atrium…..

We got a birds-eye view of the distribution canter – where everything in all our orders is “picked” and packed and shipped.  Pretty impressive pick-line!  And Stampin’ Up! goodies as far as the eye can see!

SU! Warehouse

Amy and I both wished for just 5 minutes on the pick line – if you catch my drift!! 😉

Before we got done, we wandered thru the hall of the convention center.  This is how it looked on Wednesday afternoon…..

I suspect it’ll look a lot different when we get there this afternoon! 🙂  Update:  I was right:

So – enough about OnStage for a second!  I’ll share more haps with you tomorrow, I promise.

My card for today is another thank you  – using the super One Big Meaning stamp set in the Annual Catalog.  I paired that with some clean Botanical Builder Flowers and some Color Me Irresistible DSP.  Take a look-see:

As usual, my layout didn’t come out of my own brain – I used the design inspiration from the TGIF Challenges #50:

TGIFC50 Sketch

I also played along with the HandStamped Sentiments color Challenge #235:

HSS Color Challenge 235 sketch
I started out by creating my card front.  Using my sponges, I sponged a striped panel of Color Me Irresistible with Pool Party Ink.  I kept adding color until I was happy with it, and then swiped over the panel with a paper towel, just to get any extra ink off the embossed stripes.  Then I matted that onto a piece of Smoky Slate card stock and then to a second mat of Pool Party.

The sentiment is from One Big Meaning – and it’s definitely a perfect focal point image! 😉  I stamped it in Blackberry Bliss on a plain panel of Whisper White card stock, and also matted that on Smoky Slate and Pool Party.  Then I just SNAILd on the card front – and the main elements of the sketch challenge were in place.

The flowers come from the Botanical Builders Framelits.  I made two kinds of blossoms for the card – but they all have essentially the same elements.  The larger flower is die cut in Whisper White.  I cut two of the large two-piece flowers, and lightly curled their petals – separating the two parts a bit. I also cut two of the larger one-piece flowers from Whisper White and for those I lightly folded their petals and gave them a quick, light sponging of Pool Party.

All four flowers got Smoky Slate centers – cut from the smaller one-piece flower die in Botanical Builder.  The petals were folded and lightly sponged with Blackberry Bliss.  Done!

I also took a second to cut a few Blackberry Bliss fern leaves and held on to the “stencil” that was created by making those cuts.  I’ll show you what I did with that in just a minute!

I used Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere all the flowers together with their centers, and then I stuck everything onto the card front with more of the Glue.  I added a large Rhinestone Basic Jewel to each flower and the card front was done!

For the inside, I used my Botanical Builder stencil from earlier to sponge a light fern image onto a piece of Whisper White card stock.  I originally planned to use more than one fern.  And I made about 3 liners – cuz, every time I did it, I got in too big a hurry and Blackberry Bliss went everywhere!  So I decided to keep it simple.  One fern.  Done!

Botanicals One Big Meaning Thanks 5 - Stamps-N-Lingers
I SNAILd the panel to a piece of Smoky Slate card stock and then to a Pool Party panel.  My card base is Blackberry Bliss and I adhered the inner liner and the card front with SNAIL.  And that was finis for the card!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got a couple of leaf images from the bundled Botanical Blooms stamp set, in Blackberry Bliss.  I also added a small flower image in Smoky Slate, and gave that a Pool Party middle…

…and the inner liner is a piece of Smoky Slate design paper from the Neutrals DSP stack, cut with my Envelope Liner Framelits.

Et Voila!  I’d call this a pretty clean card, even with the layers and embellishment.  I think the color scheme is beautiful – thanks HSS! – and the sketch lent itself nicely to a little playing with!  I hope that you like it as much as I ended up liking it! 🙂

Well, off to get ready for day one at OnStage!  Here’s a “whooo-hoooo!!” just to get us going!

See you tomorrow with more updates and another card to share!

TTFN!

Mary
