Stampin’ Up! Botanical Fun Fold Card for the Happy Stampers Blog Hop

HappyStampersBlogPostBanner-2

Good morning, y’all – it’s Thursday and that means it’s Happy Stampers Blog Hop Day!  We’re working on a color challenge, but first…

This week we’re doing something a little different with our Happy Stampers hop.  As many of you may have noticed, our hop founder, Sandi MacIver, hasn’t been able to join us for the last few weeks.  She’s been dealing with some significant health issues and she’s having surgery today to start her treatment.  We wanted to let Sandi know that we’re thinking about her, so we’ve all created a card, using this week’s challenge, that will send a little hug her way.  We’re looking forward to having Sandi join us again soon!  Please help us send lots of positive thoughts to her up in Canada, would you? 🙂

So – here’s what we all used as a starting point for our cards for Sandi this week….

I saw a fun-fold card out on Pinterest (Debbie Henderson at Debbie’s Designs), and I decided to give it a try!  And – it’s pretty darned easy.  This week’s color combo pretty much screamed Botanical Builder to me, so that’s the direction I went.  I added an encouraging sentiment from Something To Say.  Take a look-see:

Botanical Fun Fold 2 - Stamps-N-Lingers

Looks pretty “regular”, doesn’t it?  Well….how about….now:

Botanical Fun Fold 1 - Stamps-N-Lingers

Right??  How cool and fun is that?

So – I started with a piece of Old Olive card stock, cut to 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″.  Then I scored lines at 2 1/8″, 4 1/4″, and 6 3/8″.  And folded/burnished each score line.

For the decorative panels – there’s three of these and one made from Whisper White for the “back”…

Botanical Fun Fold 6 - Stamps-N-Lingers

The Old Olive panels are from the Wildflower Fields DSP.  Using my Simply Scored board – with the Diagonal Scoring Plate (one of my newest toys!) – I scored diagonal lines at every inch – with the green side up.  Then I flipped it over and turned it 90 degrees and scored again at every inch.  That created the quilt-like effect!  Then I matted each of the three panels on a piece of Basic Black card stock. While I was cutting and SNAILing, I matted the Whisper White panel, too.

Botanical Fun Fold 5 - Stamps-N-Lingers

Then I SNAILd each Old Olive panel to the card base – one panel per panel, as it were! 🙂

To make the “box”, I cut a piece of Old Olive card stock at 1″ x 5 1/2″.  Then I scored it down the middle – long ways – and folded it in half.  I used some Fast Fuse on one side of the strip – and then stuck it to the back side of one end of my card base panel.  (I’ll do a Tutorial with step-by-step pictures here soon!).  Then I Fast Fused the other side of the strip and folded the card to align the edge of the card base and stick it to the little strip.  Totally confused?  Try it – I bet it makes sense when you see it!

Botanical Fun Fold 10 - Stamps-N-Lingers

Here’s a close-up of the corner  – you can see the little strip that I used to stick it all together! 😉

Botanical Fun Fold 12- Stamps-N-Lingers

Next, I punched two Old Olive circles with my 1″ Circle Punch and folded them both in half.  The art circle on the front – the one that pops out – is glued to these little circles.  I put Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue on just half of each circle and then adhered them both to the card – right at a score line – with their folded edges right up against each other.  Should have taken a picture of that…..tutorial!  Promise! 🙂

To build the art circle, I cut a 2 1/2″ Circle with that circle punch from Basic Black card stock.  Then, using a Circle Framelit, I cut a 2 3/8″ circle from Old Olive – and matted it on the Basic Black circle.

Botanical Fun Fold 4 - Stamps-N-Lingers

Then I cut a few Botanical Builder Flowers – from Shimmery White card stock and a piece of Hello Honey card stock and one from Wildflower Fields DSP.  A few fern-y leaves in Hello Honey and Old Olive completed my stack of flower parts!  I lightly sponged some Hello Honey ink on all the flowers and a few fern leaves – and some Old Olive to the green leaves – to add some shading.  I also cut some flower centers using Basic Black paper from the Neutrals Designer Series Paper Stack.  On the plain Hello Honey card stock flower, I added a Tuxedo Black Memento Ink center with the stamp from Botanical Blooms.

I used Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to oh-so-artfully build up my art circle…

Botanical Fun Fold 7 - Stamps-N-Lingers

Once I had everything stuck on – I added some Rhinestone Basic Jewels to the flower centers.

You’ll notice that the three quilted Old Olive panels all have little Pearl Basic Jewels on them – I stuck a little seed pearl on every intersection of the scored lines.  Just cuz it’s pretty! 😉

The Whisper White panel – around the back side of the card – got a Hello Honey sentiment from Something to Say.  And the second part of that sentiment is stamped in Old Olive.  I used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to ensure the two images were lined up.  I added a little graphic image from Botanical Blooms in Hello Honey to the bottom of the panel.

Botanical Fun Fold 3 - Stamps-N-Lingers

A Botanical Garden Jewel, adhered with a Glue Dot, completed the panel.

I used more Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere my art circle to the two little circles on the other side of the card.  Then I adhered the last two fern-y leaves – the Hello Honey ones – directly to the card, under the art circle.  And the card was done!

Botanical Fun Fold 1 - Stamps-N-Lingers

For the envelope – yep, it still fits in a regular Medium Whisper White Envelope! – I used a few flower images from Botanical Blooms in Hello Honey, with some Basic Black centers, and a leaf in Old Olive, with Tuxedo Black veins, on the front…

Botanical Fun Fold 8 - Stamps-N-Lingers

…and made another “quilted” piece of Wildflower Fields DSP, and cut it with my Envelope Liner Framelit.

Botanical Fun Fold 9 - Stamps-N-Lingers

Oh – hey.  See the little white dots on the liner?  I used my White Stampin’ Chalk Marker and made little dots at all the score line intersections.  To mimic the pearls on the card, without the bulk!

I hope you like this fun fold card – I promise to get a Tutorial up soon!  And – don’t forget that you can bundle the Botanical Gardens – the stamp set, framelits and Designer Paper! – for only $51.75.  That’s a 15% savings over buying them individually – and it’ll instantly earn you a free Sale-a-Bration item! 🙂
