Stampin’ Up! Awesomely Artistic What I Love Thanks!

Update on 1 Mar 16:  This card was selected as a runner-up (Princess) at Freshly Made Sketches!  Whoo-hoo and many thanks to the ladies over at FMS for picking my card out of all the wonderful cards submitted.  Please take a minute and go check out the Queen of Clean (Wendy – from Simply Made) and the other Princesses! 🙂

Well, it was a spectacularly gorgeous day here in Atlanta – the kind of day that makes those of us who live here glad of it!  And helps to make up for the really cold winter days and the oh-so-freakin’-humid summers!  Southerners know that Spring (and Spring-like days in February!) and Fall are our reward for the winter and summer.  Heck if every day in the South was like today – folk would be flocking here even more than they already do! 🙂

Today’s thank-you card (yes, I need a lot of thank-you cards!) brings back one of the beautiful springy stamp sets from the Annual Catalog.  Awesomely Artistic has one of the prettiest floral stamps that I’ve seen.  I grabbed a sentiment from the Sale-A-Bration set called What I Love and some pretty paper from the Birthday Bouquet DSP and….take a look-see:

The layout for my card comes from the Freshly Made Sketches challenge #225:

FMS 225 Sketch

I started with a mat of Marina Mist card stock, and layered it with a piece of the Sale-A-Bration Botanical Gardens Designer Vellum.  I just SNAILd under where the Birthday Bouquet panel was going to go, so that you can’t see it thru the vellum.  I matted the Birthday Bouquet panel on some more Marina Mist card stock, and then SNAILd it over the vellum

The next step was to run a length of Mint Macaron 1″ Dotted Lace Trim across the card front, securing it in the back with scotch tape.  And then I got to work on the art piece.

I inked up the beautiful floral image from Awesomely Artistic in Basic Black Archival Ink and stamped it on a piece of Whisper White card stock.  Then, using my Stampin’ Write Markers in Mint Macaron, Lost Lagoon, Wisteria Wonder, Marina Mist and Pear Pizzazz, I colored the image.  And then I fussy cut it.  And then I hit it all over with my Clear Wink Of Stella Glitter Brush!

The dragonfly – also from Awesomely Artistic – is stamped on Vellum card stock.  I inked the image in Versamark, sprinkled it with Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heated it up.  Then I turned the vellum over and colored the back of the wings of the dragonfly with my Marina Mist Stampin’ Write Marker.  And then….I fussy cut it!

Finally, I made the sentiment by heat embossing the frame image from – you guessed it!  – Awesomely Artistic – in Silver.  And fussy cutting it.  The sentiment itself is from the Sale-A-Bration set called What I Love, stamped in Perfectly Plum.

For the art background, I ran some of the new White Metallics Glitter Tape (Sale-A-Bration) over a square of Whisper White card stock and then matted it on Marina Mist.  Using a bunch of Stampin’ Dimensionals, I stuck the flower image over the sparkly tape.  And then the sentiment frame – I used a double layer of Dimensionals on the right side of the frame – went over the flowers.

Lastly, I popped the dragonfly on with more Stampin’ Dimensionals.  To add a little sparkle – like the shimmer of a real dragonfly – I put some Silver Sparkle Dazzling Details on his wings.  And then added 4 Pearl Basic Jewels to his body.  And, while I had the Pearls out, I added seed pearls (those are the little tiny ones) to the centers of the flowers.

The inside liner is another piece of Whisper White card stock, with the Awesomely Artistic flowers stamped again in Basic Black Archival Ink and colored with the same Stampin’ Write Markers that I used on the front.  And then I brushed Clear Wink of Stella on it, too.  Spoiler alert – I’ll be doing the same thing on the envelope! 😉

Then I SNAILd it to a Marina Mist mat and into my Whisper White card base.  I added the front with SNAIL as well, and the card was done!

For the envelope, I took a Whisper White Medium Envelope and added the Awesomely Artistic flowers in Basic Black Archival Ink and colored it as before – including the Clear Wink of Stella.  I also added the dragonfly in Smoky Slate ink.  And a bit of Wink! 😉

The inside got a liner from a last little bit of the Birthday Bouquet DSP that I used on the card, cut with my Envelope Liner Framelits.

Et Voila!  I love these colors together – Mint Macaron and Marina Mist seem kind of made for each other!  I hope that you like it as much as I do!

  2. Mom

Really nice! Colors are faves and very suited to the dragon fly wings.

  3. You did a artistic job to color the image with Stampin’ Write Markers in Mint Macaron, Lost Lagoon, Wisteria Wonder, Marina Mist and Pear Pizzazz. Greta card!

    Hi Mary,

This is a beautiful card! I agree… this stamp set is exceptional, and I love the dragonfly you decorated with embossing powder on vellum.

There is a children’s book about dragonflies and their life cycle is tied to losing a loved one to death. My Mom passed away three weeks ago, so this card spoke to me. I am grateful to know she is now with the Lord, but goodness… grief is hard work!

Thanks for being a ray of sunshine in my inbox.

    Take good care,

    Patricia

    • Patricia – I’m so very sorry to hear about your Mom. What a terrible time for you! I’m glad that I was able to give you – I hope! – a smile today. And I know she’s safe and happy where she is now – and watching over you every day. Take the very best of care! M

  5. Really awesome, Mary. Your dragonfly is a piece of art in itself! Wow, I love this card!

  6. Thanks so much, Jari! 🙂
