Stampin’ Up! Large Numbers Bear Hug Birthday for the Happy Stampers Blog Hop

HappyStampersBlogPostBanner-2

Okay – it just occurred to me that I did a birthday card using the Large Numbers Framelits for the last Happy Stampers Blog Hop!  Sorry about that – but it should really just go to show you how much fun and how versatile this set is!  Wouldn’t surprise me if you see some other projects using it today in the Blog Hop.  I hope that you’ll check everyone’s blogs out when you get done here!

This week we had a Color Challenge – Crushed Curry, Melon Mambo and Mint Macaron.  Of course, I’d left my Mint Macaron card stock at home.  So…had to look to my DSP – and I found the It’s My Party Designer Series Paper Stack.  All three colors are well represented in this fun paper!

I combined a few sets for this project – deciding on the card when I realized that this year my husband will turn….duh duh duh duuuuuuh….SIXTY!  Oh my goodness – how did that happen??  A little sobering.  So I figured a not-so-sober card was in order.  Of course, there has to be a little black on a birthday card for such an occasion!

So, I used the Number of Years bundle and combined some elements from Bear Hugs, Balloon Celebration and Party With Cake.  Take a look-see:

Bear Hug Birthday Balloons 1 - Stamps-N-LingersWhat do you think?  Did I get enough candles? 😉

I started by SNAILing a piece of the It’s My Party DSP onto a Basic Black card stock mat, to become my card base.  Then I cut another of the designs in the stack with the 3 3/4″ Diameter Circles Collection Framelit.  To make its mat, I laid the framelit upside down on a piece of Basic Black card stock, traced it with a pencil and then cut it out.  Once I SNAILd the DSP to it, I laid the circle on my card front where I wanted it to be, and marked where I needed to cut to make it fit correctly.  I cut that with my Stampin’ Trimmer and SNAILd the circle to the card front – making sure to line up the mat edges to match!

I cut the numbers from Basic Black card stock (they had to be black, right??) using the Large Number Framelits.  At some point, I got the idea of the bear holding a bouquet of balloons that said something along the lines of Happy 60th.  So I implemented that by stamping two of the words/abbreviations from the Number of Years stamp set (frugally bundled with the Large Number Framelits!) in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink on Melon Mambo card stock.  I punched them out with the Balloon Bouquet punch and then added the balloon “shading” images from the matching Balloon Celebration stamp set in Melon Mambo ink.

Whew!  That’s a lotta bundling!  But it’s so worth it to have all those tools handy in your tool chest, huh?

I think balloons are shiny, so they both got painted with some Clear Wink of Stella.

I adhered the “6” to the card front with a little Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue and then the “0” and the balloons were popped on with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Now – when you do this, don’t be like me and forget your string!  Before you stick your balloons down – stick some string on the backs of the balloons with some Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.  In my case, I used Crushed Curry Baker’s Twine and some dabs of Liquid Glue and stuck them on the fronts of the balloons.  And then added teeny tiny itsy bitty bows to each balloon.  I’m kind of glad I messed the string thing up – I might not have thought to use the bows, or taken the time (yes, they were pretty persnickety).  And I really like how they look! 🙂

For my bear, I stamped the large Bear Hugs image in Crushed Curry on a piece of Whisper White card stock – and then I used a Blender Pen to color her in with more Crushed Curry.  I cut her with the matching die in the Bear Hugs Framelits.  She also sports a skirt – Mint Macaron stamped and then colored in with the Blender Pen and brushed with Clear Wink of Stella, and I added a strip of Gold Wink of Stella across the top.  To further solidify her girl-bear-ness, I gave her a Winked-up Melon Mambo hair bow!  All of these are images and matching framelits in the Bear Hugs bundle!

I popped her onto the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and adhered all her accessories with Liquid Glue.  Then I painted her lips and nails with my Melon Mambo Stampin’ Write Marker.  Another dab of the Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue had her holding onto the floating balloons.

At that point, I thought I was done with the front of the card.  But, she seemed a little empty handed to me.  So I figured she should be bringing a present to the party.  I just cut a little rectangle of the It’s My Party DSP and gave it a ribbon.  That’s the 3/8″ Stitched Satin Ribbon in Melon Mambo – that I cut with my Craft Scissors into narrow strips.  I stuck the ribbon on with scotch tape in the back and then did a little “faux bow” with a third strip (just tie the strip in a tight little knot around the other pieces).  Finally, I slid a Melon Mambo Itty Bitty Accent Pack heart – like a tiny note card – under the present’s ribbon!  And that was it for the front of the card!

On the inside, I SNAILd a Whisper White panel to one of Basic Black and then stamped the big, bold sentiment from the Party With Cake stamp set in Mint Macaron.  And another one in Crushed Curry (cake-ice cream-cake….it’s the trifecta!).  I colored in the word “cake” with the Melon Mambo marker, and added two candles.

Then I SNAILd it into my Crushed Curry card base, popped the front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

For the envelope, I decorated the front of a Whisper White Medium Envelope with more Party With Cake candles in Crushed Curry, Melon Mambo and Mint Macaron…

…and gave it a liner of It’s My Party DSP (balloons this time) with my Envelope Liner Framelit.

Bear Hugs Birthday Balloons 7 - Stamps-N-Lingers

Et Voila!  I think this is a fun card to celebrate kind of a big birthday!  And yes, it’s for my hubby – but I think it’s okay.  Not too girly.  Just kind of fun! I hope that you like it!
