Stampin’ Up! Sweetbriar Rose Just a Note

Good Monday morning.  Today, we take a break from our regularly scheduled program and take a look back thru the dusty shelves of Mary’s Stampin’ spot in her living room!  You may recall me telling you last week that I did a bit of a purge of my retired stamp sets, and “found” some oldie-but-goodies lurking in the shelving (actually $1.99 plastic CD boxes from Publix!).  They were just begging to be used!

So, I granted the wish of a lovely lovely stamp called Sweetbriar Rose.  This is an ala carte stamp (it comes all by itself, in wood) and is just wonderful.  I combined it with a simple sentiment from Watercolor Wishes (which comes in the Watercolor Wishes Card Kit – and is WAY worth having – it’s a wonderful group of sentiments in gorgeous fonts!), and stepped way back into my wheelhouse.  Take a look-see:

See what I mean?  Very very simple.  Some flowers.  A little bit vintage-ified – a little bit of bling.  My wheelhouse!

I started with a Crumb Cake card base.  To that, I adhered a piece of Kraft Corrugated paper – popping it up with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

For the artwork, I wanted to heat emboss the Sweetbriar Rose image in Crumb Cake.  But, I don’t have any Crumb Cake Stampin’ Emboss Powder (there isn’t any that I’m aware of!), so….I first inked the image with Versamark Ink, then inked it with Crumb Cake ink (go right from the Versamark into the Crumb Cake!) and then I stamped the image onto a piece of my Canson Watercolor Paper.  I quickly sprinkled it with Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heated it up with my Heat Tool!  You’ll also notice that the words “Sweetbriar Rose” aren’t stamped on my card – but they are on the stamp itself.  I covered the words with tape before I inked and stamped it!

I decided to only color the flowers – and I did that very lightly.  I used my Blender Pen and Pink Pirouette ink.  And I really only shadowed the petals – I didn’t actually “color them in”.  I had a picture in my head of an old timey kind of botanical print.  Now, I know old timey botanical prints didn’t “shimmer”, but….this is still me making this card, after all!  So, I pulled out my new bestest stamping friend, Stella.  I brushed Clear Wink of Stella along the outlines of the flowers, just to add a little sumpin’-sumpin’!

Then I stamped the sentiment from Watercolor Wishes in Crumb Cake in the top corner.  I tore the edges of the panel, sponged them with more Crumb Cake ink and SNAILd it to the Corrugated Paper and that was it for the front of the card.  Easy peasy!

On the inside, I used a piece of Very Vanilla and tore and sponged the edges to match the front of the card.  The Very Vanilla is very similar in coloring to the Watercolor Paper – just a different texture.

I SNAILd that into the card – and it was done!

For the Crumb Cake Medium Envelope, I stamped the Sweetbriar Rose image – again in Crumb Cake, but this time I didn’t tape off the words on the stamp…

…and made a liner with a Pink Pirouette design from the Subtles Backgrounds DSP, cutting it with my Envelope Liner Framelit!

Et Voila!  One of my favorite types of card – flowers and corrugated paper and a vintage look!  Hope you like!

Hope that you’re ready for Monday!  I’m not sure I am, but it appears to have arrived anyway, huh? 🙂

I’ll see you tomorrow with updates and new Weekly Deals!
