Well, here’s my first card share from the new 2016 Occasions Catalog! It uses the gorgeous Botanical Suite – which is the first thing that caught my eye during the Product Spotlight last weekend. This uses all my favorite colors – Mossy Meadow, Cajun Craze, Hello Honey….what’s not to love?
I paired the Botanical Gardens DSP with a few die cuts from the coordinating Botanical Builder Framelits. (Here’s a cool factoid: when this catalog comes out in January, you’ll be able to bundle the Botanical Blooms stamp set, the matching Framelits AND the matching DSP together and save 15%. And – coincidently, the total comes to just over $50 – which will ALSO let you pick a FREE item from the Sale-A-Bration catalog. Whaaaaaaaatttttt???) I added a sentiment from Sassy Salutations and this is what I came up with! Take a look-see:
The design was inspired by Freshly Made Sketches challenge #213. Be sure to check it out, okay?
I made this card tall & skinny – not because the sketch called for it, because it didn’t – just cause I wanted to! Building the layers went quickly – I used Mossy Meadow for all the mats, and three different designs in the Botanical Gardens DSP. So the first thing I did was cut out all the pieces of DSP and SNAIL them to their Mossy Meadow Mats. Then, I SNAILd the largest of the horizontal pieces to the card front.
I SNAILd the small horizontal element to the Hello Honey center focal panel. Then I wrapped a length of Linen Thread and Silver Metallic Thread three times around the panel, threaded one of the beautiful new Botanical Gardens Jewels thru the thread, and tied a knot. I popped that piece onto the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
I used the fern (?) die from the Botanical Builder Framelits and cut two of them from the DSP and one from a piece of Mossy Meadow card stock. I saved the card stock piece that I made the cut from – you’ll see why in a minute! Using the Fine-Tip Glue Pen, I adhered the ferns to the card front, sticking the stems under the jewel.
The sentiment is from Sassy Salutations, stamped in Cajun Craze on a piece of Very Vanilla card stock. I cut it out with the third-from-the-center oval in the Ovals Collection Framelits. Instead of matting it and adding another layer of thickness, I used my Mossy Meadow Stampin’ Write Marker to make “stitches” around the perimeter of the oval. I used a smear of Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere it to the card front. Then I set that all aside to make the inside of the card!
The inside liner is a piece of Very Vanilla card stock, that I sponged some ferns on – using the “mask” that resulted when I cut the fern from the Mossy Meadow card stock! It works just fine – but you do have to use a little caution – don’t get TOO carried away or the little fern fronds will bend back and mess up your sponging! I did a couple in Mossy Meadow and one each in Cajun Craze and Crushed Curry. Then I matted it on a piece of Mossy Meadow card stock, and SNAILd it inside my Very Vanilla card base!
With that safely done – I popped the card front onto the front of the card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and the card was complete!
I made a custom envelope for this tall & skinny card, using a piece of Very Vanilla Envelope Paper. Then I sponged a few more fern fronds and stitched a few more “stitches” on the front….
…and made a custom liner using my Envelope Punch Board and piece of matching Botanical Gardens DSP!
Et Voila! I love this suite in the new catalog!! So much so that you should probably expect to see another card made with it on Wednesday! 😉
