Welcome to the first of our new Happy Stampers Weekly Blog Hops!  Hope that you’ll join us each week to see what we all have to offer.  We have a lot of talented folks in our group and I know that you’re going to be inspired to get crafty with every blog hop you see! 🙂

This week’s blog uses a sketch for inspiration.  This is where we started:

Sketch 1 Blog Hop

Funny story (well, maybe funny – you be the judge.  But, pretend to laugh anyway, okay? I have very delicate feelings) – I was less than prepared for this blog hop.  I needed to provide a “Shortlink” for my fellow hoppers so they could get their blog posts all set up.  And I had to do that early this week.  Well, the way to get a shortlink is to make a blog post and save it and schedule it.  Easy enough – but the TITLE of the blog post has to stay the same once you make it or the shortlink changes and then everything is chaos.  I had to figure out what I was going to make, in order to come up with a title.  But on Monday evening I had no clue.  So, I thought about it for a while and decided I’d make something with the Dove of Peace stamp and the Wonderland stamp set.  I built my title and passed my shortlink on to the other ladies.

I tried to figure out what I was going to do with those two sets and the inspiration sketch.  On top of that, I wanted to incorporate pink into the card, to mark Breast Cancer Awareness and in response to our Happy Stampers challenge for October.  Hmmm….

And then, I remembered Christmas growing up.  My grandparents always had a silvery-flecked, sparkly white-flocked Christmas tree.  And it had pink and silver ornaments and lots and lots of that deadly silver “rain” (my favorite part of the tree!!).  I always loved those Christmas trees – and going with my grandfather to get that tree every year….well, that’s a pretty special memory for me.

And there it was.  White.  Pink.  Christmas Tree.  Take a look-see at how I made Wonderland and Dove of Peace and Pink work for my card!

Dove of Peace Wonderland 2 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I started building the three background elements of the card.  The main card front is a piece of Whisper White card stock.  I used the snowflake flurry stamp from Wonderland, and stamped all over the paper with Pink Pirouette Classic Ink. I let that dry for a few minutes and then I inked the same stamp up with Versamark and stamped all over the card again.  I sprinkled that with Iridescent Stampin’ Emboss Powder, tapped it off and heated it up with my Heat Tool.  I SNAILd the card to a Pink Pirouette card stock mat and set it aside.

The middle element, the narrow banner, is a piece of Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper, snipped into a banner with my Paper Snips and SNAILd to a Pink Pirouette mat.  Pretty straightforward, yes?

Dove of Peace Wonderland 5 - Stamps-N-Lingers

The final background banner is another piece of Whisper White.  I first stamped the Wonderland trees onto my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig plastic sheet with a little Tuxedo Black ink.  It’s WAY too hard to see the stamp on the plastic if you use Pink Pirouette.  Just trust me on that and save yourself a step! 🙂

I stamped the trees across the banner in Pink Pirouette and then let it dry a bit.  Then, using the previously stamped Stamp-A-Ma-Jig, I stamped the trees again – right over the top of the Pink trees – with Versamark.  Then I sprinkled that with more Iridescent Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat embossed them.  I did each “cluster” one at a time – stamp, sprinkle, heat – so that I wouldn’t smear Versamark across the card with either the plastic sheet or that actual Stamp-A-Ma-Jig.  With that done, I SNAILd it to a final Pink Pirouette banner mat and set it aside as well.

Dove of Peace Wonderland 2 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I built the Dove of Peace focal element by taping off the sentiment on the Dove stamp with some scotch tape, inking the Dove with Versamark and stamping it onto a piece of Whisper White Card Stock.  I sprinkled it with Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat embossed it.  Then I colored it with my Pink Pirouette and Blushing Bride Stampin’ Write Markers and fussy cut it with my Paper Snips.

At that point it was time to build the card front.  I SNAILd the snowflaked card front to my Whisper White card base (I’d normally use Dimensionals, but this card is plenty thick enough, so I didn’t do that on this one!).  Then came the two banners, both also SNAILd on.  The top banner has SNAIL in the center portion and Stampin’ Dimensionals up both sides – to compensate for the extra thickness of the banner underneath it.  The Dove is adhered with a bunch of Stampin’ Dimensionals (that I added a little bit of Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to, just to give myself a little extra sticking power!).

Dove of Peace Wonderland 3 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I made the banner by stamping the first two words from the sentiment in All Ye Faithful in Basic Gray Archival Ink onto a piece of Whisper White Card stock.  Then I pulled out the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig again and used it to let me stamp just the word “ye”.  The sentiment stamp says “O, Come all ye Faithful”.  I taped off the words I didn’t want, lined “ye” where I wanted it after the stamped “O, Come” and turned it into “O, Come ye”.  Then I cut the sentiment out with a Bitty Banner Framelit die and edged it with my Pink Pirouette Stampin’ Write Marker.

I snipped open the Dove’s mouth, slid the end of the banner in and then secured it with two glue dots.  A Rhinestone Basic Jewel finished it off!

Dove of Peace Wonderland 4 - Stamps-N-Lingers

For the inside, I stamped the bottom sentiment from the Dove of Peace stamp in Basic Gray Archival Ink onto a piece of Whisper White card stock.  Then I stamped the Wonderland trees twice over the top of the sentiment in Pink Pirouette Ink.  I SNAILd that to a Pink Pirouette mat and that was that!

Dove of Peace Wonderland 7 - Stamps-N-Lingers

The final step was to stamp some more Wonderland snowflakes across a Whisper White Medium Envelope in Pink Pirouette ink.

Dove of Peace Wonderland 6 - Stamps-N-Lingers

Et Volia!  It reminds me of the Christmas trees of my childhood – even the Dove brings to mind some of the ornaments we had.  Glittery doves “flying” in the tree!

I hope that you enjoyed this pink and white card as much as I did.  Now, take some time to go to all the other ladies blogs and see what they have to offer!  You can click on the “Next Blog” button to go to Jari Francis’ page, or you can click on any of the names below and go direct to their blog post!

  1. Definitely an unusual color combination for a holiday card, but it works! It does look like those one of those old Christmas trees! 🙂

    • Right?!? I’m not even sure you can get a flocked tree any more and I KNOW you can’t buy that lead-infused silver rain! But, yes – I think it actually works! Thanks. 🙂

  2. Mom

Ahhh…nice! And thanks for the memory!

  3. funhy story, I have done that too. I also had a pink and gold tree for about 20 years, so I Love the combo, and hey, it fits perfectly with the color challenge in our Stamping Group for this month too!…

  4. Very retro, right? 🙂 Thanks, Sandi! 🙂

  5. Kate S

Very ingenious of you to incorporate the pink into your card. Wow, it looks nice with the Dove, adds to the peaceful theme, too. Your story was neat, thanks for sharing, it brings up memories for me, too.

    • Thanks, Jari – I really ended up liking it. Wasn’t sure if it would work! But – it does bring back some memories, doesn’t it? 🙂

  7. Denise M

Pretty, pretty, pretty……did I mention it is sooo pretty.

  8. I’m visiting from Amy Koenders’ blog… your card is beautiful. I have a friend who decorates her home in pink and silver for the holidays and it’s beautiful. I may have to CASE your card just for her!
