Stampin’ Up! A Little Something Simple for Saturday!

A very cool thing happened to us this morning.  As Wayne and I were coming back to the house after feeding, we were almost to the garage when a slight commotion caught our attention.  We looked towards the woods on the edge of the driveway and saw TWO hawks swooping and diving thru the tress – apparently either embroiled in a bit of a fuss or “on a date”!  One continued thru the trees and away, but the other hawk landed on a tree so close I could touch him.  Well, with my extra long Inspector Gadget extending robot arm – but, you know what I mean.  He and I looked right into each other’s eyes.

Really.

We did.

We had a moment.

And it was the coolest thing ever!! 🙂

I blinked.  He left.  He was done with me.

So, we’ve (Wayne and I, not me and the hawk!) decided we need to wear a Go-Pro on our heads whenever we leave the house and it needs to always be on and recording.  Cause we never know what we’re going to look up and see….a deer and her spotty child….a squirrel relaxing in the path with an apple in his hands….a hawk flying by with a snake dangling (an experience equal parts “ooooooooh” and “eeeeeeeeeww”!)…..a hummingbird hovering right in front of our faces…a spotty deer kid racing madly around the pasture just because she can and she’s really fast and EVERYONE NEEDS TO SEE!  We’re surrounded by wildlife and wish we could get them on tape.

We probably won’t do that.  So don’t be expecting video of snake-carrying-hawks any time soon, okay?

A second miracle occurred today to me – not to Wayne.  At one point this afternoon, Wayne said “I’m going to go mow – you need to do your card and blog, don’t you?”  I almost fell over!  Direct acknowledgement that I’m trying to make this into a going concern!  Whoo-hoo!! 😉  So….here I am!

It occurred to me when I sat down to make the card that it had been a little bit since I’d done a card that only needs one stamp set.  Like I promised I would.  I try to keep my promises, but I’ve failed on this one.  You guys need to remind me, okay?

So, I reined in my desire to use a stamp from every set I own and twelve different framelits, and settled on a Fall card using the fun set that can be bundled with the Square Pillow Box Framelits.  It’s called A Little Something, and it’s got a couple of cute stamps in it that hit “Fall” square on the head.  I combined that with some Autumn-y colors and a little Thick Baker’s Twine and…..take a look-see:

A Little Something 1

I started with a piece of Very Vanilla card stock.  I cut it a little smaller than normal – I wanted my Tangelo Twist mat to be a little more visible on the front of the Cherry Cobbler card base.  First I stamped multiple images of the leaves stamp in the A Little Something set.  I colored each leaf (there are 5 leaves on the one stamp) with a Stampin’ Write Marker.  I only used three colors – I just randomly colored the leaves each time I stamped.  The three colors are Pumpkin Pie, Cherry Cobbler and Crushed Curry.

I didn’t get real het up with which leaves were colored which color – I just got happy with it.  And I did it a bunch of times.  And I let the stamps overlap.  I was trying to make it look like the leaves were falling.  For Fall.

A Little Something 2

When I thought I had enough leaves to make a good pile, I pulled out the sentiment stamp.  I didn’t want the acorns (no, I don’t know why, I just didn’t), so I put a piece of scotch tape over them before I inked the stamp with Cherry Cobbler.  I used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to get the sentiment nestled right into the leaves.  Then I did one more leaf stamp over the top of the sentiment.

I SNAILd the art piece to the Tangelo Twist mat, and then wrapped my Cherry Cobbler Thick Baker’s Twine around it 3 times and tied a bow.  I added a couple of Into the Woods Elements – adhering them with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue, and also tacked the little bow down at the same time.

A Little Something 5

I popped the card front onto my Cherry Cobbler card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals and headed inside!

A Little Something 3

The inside was just as easy as the front.  I leafed-up another piece of Very Vanilla card stock in the same way I’d done it on the front, and then added a Tangelo Twist mat (with the same slightly wider margins as the front mat).

A Little Something 4

I finished up by stamping more leaves onto a Very Vanilla Medium Envelope.  I did some across the front….

A Little Something 6

…and then, in a burst of oh-I’m-so-clever! I added one stamp’s-worth of leaves under the flap.  Like an Envelope Liner.  Without using the Envelope Liner Framelits. 😉

A Little Something 7

Et Voila!  A fun Fall card and envelope, using just one stamp set and no need for any Framelits or Thinlits or a Big Shot!

Whatcha think?? 🙂

Have a great Saturday – the last Saturday of summer for 2015.  It’s almost my favorite part of the year here in the South – the part that makes the summer bearable.  FALL!  I can almost smell the leaves burning.

TTFN and I’ll see you tomorrow!

Mary

  1. What a cute, clean and simple card Mary! Love the fall colors. 🙂 And I love that your husband offered to let you go stamp while he mows…he’s definitely a keeper! Although I’m not so sure about the hawk with a snake video thing…no need to share that one with me. 😉

  2. Check. No hawk/snake video for Amy K! 🙂 Thanks, Amy

  3. Mom

Skip me with the snake-on-wildlife-cam for me too…but surely do love the rest, as you know! And I love this very simple but effective card too.

  4. JRGH

Love the story and the card. Have a great day!

  5. Thank you! 🙂
