Well, last night, we got home from having dinner with some friends. It was 9pm and change, which is way WAY past my bedtime (or at least very VERY close to it!). The heat outside was ridonkulous. That’s several steps worse than ridiculous, just FYI. So, we stepped into the kitchen, anticipating a quick shower and bed. Pretty normal (even if we ARE still thinking Buck’s going to meet us at the door…. 🙁 ), right up until I got 2 feet inside and realized “It’s not cool in here!”. Which I immediately pointed out to my husband, just in case he hadn’t noticed it – he had, but not for several nano-seconds after I did. Men may just not be as finely attuned to the temperature as women. Just sayin’.
Quick investigation showed that the air coming out of the vents was tepid. At best. The thermostat showed the inside temp to be at 77. It was set at 73….. you see the problem, yes? So, we were up until midnight, with Wayne working on the AC (thankfully our neighbor friend who’s been doing HVAC for 40 years was still awake!), while I held very still inside and stayed awake (barely) in a wifely show of solidarity (and because no way could I have gone to bed with it that warm. No. Freakin’. Way). Fortunately, he got it working and the house cooled down quickly enough for us to finally go to sleep – but it was a short night for us!
On to the card….
When I first saw this sketch from Mojo Monday (#408, to be exact)…
…I thought it looked pretty straightforward. Which it totally is. I decided I wanted to use some of the new Farmer’s Market DSP, so I pulled it out along with some Waldmoos (memory check….which color is this??!) card stock and some Sahara Sand. I thought the Honeycomb TIEF would be a great compliment for the horizontal element, and the….well, I’m getting way ahead of myself. The point (yes, there was one!) is that I started making the card and all was progressing nicely, until I got to the circle element. And then I stymied myself. That’s self-stymy-ization, folks, and not just everyone can do it as easily as I. So I ended up shutting off the light and returning to the card the next morning. Note: I actually built this card on Tuesday – so my stymy-fication and the AC incident did not coincide. Which is fortunate, because in the night, it came to me. Take a look-see at what my sleeping brain came up with:
So, let’s start at the very beginning. It’s a very fine place to start…. I’d already decided I wanted to use the pears from the Farmer’s Market DSP. On the flip side of the pear design is the really wonderful barn wood design. The paper was practically building the card FOR me! I first SNAILd a piece of the Farmer’s Market to a mat of Waldmoos. Then I ran a strip of the Mossy Meadow thru the Big Shot in the Honeycomb TIEF. Bees….pollinators….pears….pretty obvious correlation there, right? Then I SNAILd that to a piece of Delightful Dijon (no, that’s not one of the officially coordinating colors for Farmer’s Market, but I think it works great – and I didn’t have any Hello Honey. Don’t judge!) and then SNAILd THAT to the card front.
I SNAILd another piece of the DSP (this time with the barn-wood side showing) to a piece of Mossy Meadow and layered that on top of the card front with Dimensionals. I wrapped a length of the new 3/8″ Stitched Satin Ribbon in Crumb Cake around the card front and secured it to the back with some regular ole tape. And then decided that its shiny prettiness didn’t fit with the “rustic, farmer’s market” theme I had goin’ on. So, I pulled out my 1 1/4″ Burlap Ribbon, and cut it lengthwise at about a 1/4″, and then secured that piece a little offset from the satin ribbon. I popped the whole thing onto my Delightful Dijon card base with more Dimensionals, and deemed it good.
And then the stymy-ization set in. And I slept on the problem. And I awoke with a clatter and a plan!
I took some of the leftover DSP and fussy cut several of the pears. Not too difficult with the SU! Paper Snips – and the pears are pretty straightforward – I did decide to cut off the leaves and just leave the little stem, cause I’m not crazy, man!
Using my Vintage Leaves stamp set, I stamped some Mossy Meadow leaves onto the Burlap Ribbon and cut them out as well (note: cutting the burlap ribbon is easy, but it sheds all sorts of burlap-hair/fuzz whilst you’re doing it, so be forewarned!). Then I colored the leaves in with my Mossy Meadow Stampin’ Write Marker – trying to get some hint of the veining in the leaves (FAIL). It did give me a little more color, though,
I used my bone folder to ever-so-gently-and-lightly curl the little pears, to give them more of a sense of “round” rather than “flat” (flat pears are not tasty). Then, using some dimensionals and glue dots and Multi-purpose Liquid Glue, I ever-s0-artfully stacked them into a bunch in place of the circle element of the sketch. As I was layering, I wound some Metallic Gold Thread through the bunch. I secured the thread with several glue dots that would be hidden under the pears.
The sentiment got real simple, real quick. I just used teensy dabs of Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to attach one of the cool new Expressions Natural Elements to the card front.
On the inside, I used a liner of Sahara Sand (yes, one of the “approved” colors!) and stamped the sentiment from the And Many More set in Mossy Meadow. Then I covered that with a small piece of sticky note, and stamped one Waldmoos leaf (from Vintage Leaves) over the top of it. I added a strip of the barn wood DSP on a Mossy Meadow mat across the bottom…..
….et voila! The card was done. Just to make everything all nice and coordinated, I stamped some more Mossy Meadow Vintage Leaves onto a Crumb Cake Medium Envelope and I had a perfectly lovely card set.
I’m so very glad that I slept on the problem and came up with the pear cluster idea, cause I just love how it turned out! Hope that you do, too….

That’s an awesome card!! Love that you snipped out the little pears from the DSP and added them to the card front…apparently sometimes our brains need to cook a bit to come up with great ideas. 😉 Our power went out two evenings ago (two transformers blew up and caught on fire…an exciting night with the fire department on our street!) and was out from 4 PM until 1:30 AM, so I feel your pain on the heat! Thankfully we’re both all cooled off now. 🙂
Thanks, Amy. I told you that I’ve gone a little fussy-cut crazy! I think your heat situation was worse than ours – we were at least gone for a big part of it – and we could DO something about it. You were just at the mercy of the power company. But, I bet the kiddos loved the fire trucks! 😉

Every summer our air goes out, and we cannot open any windows because we live in an old house with painted shut windows. Luckily this summer we have not had any problems.
Every summer. Yikes! That would NOT work for me – I’d have a standing reservation at the Hampton around the corner. In fact, I actually threatened that the other night!
