A Wildflower Meadow Birthday

Today’s share features the Wildflower Meadow Textured Impressions Embossing Folder that is, sadly, retiring but is, happily, still available and is a whopping 50% off (that makes it a cool $3.98!). It’s one of my favorites and it lends a very nice, tone-on-tone texture to my Birthday Card.  Take a look-see:

I started with a piece of the Best Year Ever DSP (Occasions Catalog) as my mat.  I liked the yellow and small bit of visible pattern – I’d been “afraid” to use that DSP as a mat (seemed like a “waste”!), but one of the ladies in our stamping group used it one day for one of her cards, and I realized I’d been kind of silly.  If it works – it works, right?  So..if you’ve got some of the “special” DSP and it seems like it would be a good fit as a mat (versus being a focal point of your card), then go for it!  Any-who….with my mat selected, I ran a piece of Whisper White CS thru the Big Shot in my Wildflower Meadow TIEF, and SNAIL’d it to the DSP mat.  Then I pulled a length of the velvet ribbon out of my Artisan Embellishment Kit (Occasions catalog) and wrapped it around, securing it in the back with some plain ole tape.

For the sentiment, I started by cutting one of the tag shapes with my Chalk Talk framelits.  I actually cut two pieces – one from Whisper White and the other from Blackberry Bliss.  Then I stamped the sentiment from the Butterfly Basics set (framelits and bundles still on special thru 30 Apr!) in Blackberry Bliss on the white tag.  I SNAIL’d the white sentiment tag to the Blackberry Bliss mat – offsetting it a little to make a shadow.  I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to layer the tag over the top of the velvet ribbon.

I cut several Bitty Flowers using the flower punch, from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack, and some Blackberry Bliss.  These were adhered to the tag with glue dots, and then I completed them with a pearl.  And put a pearl on the “i” in Birthday, just for good measure!

Spreading a few pearls around the rest of the embossed piece completed my creation – and then I popped the whole thing onto my Blackberry Bliss card base with Dimensionals.  And the front was done!  Okay – truth in advertising.  See the pearl in the middle of the right side of the white card stock?  Right….on…..the…..edge?  Yea – that’s the one.  It’s actually covering a little tiny smudge of Blackberry Bliss.  Like it’s namesake, that ink just seems to get all over me – and (apparently) my cards!  Might as well be a white t-shirt! 🙁  Sheesh.  So, once I covered that smudge with a handy pearl, I put a few more around the rest of the card front – you know, to make it look like I PLANNED to use them all along. 🙂  And, although I had NOT planned to use them in that manner, I do like how the end result turned out.

The inside is simply a piece of Whisper White Card Stock, with some Itty Bitty Flowers punched out, and a pearl gracing the center of each flower.  The card base itself gives me the “flowers”.  Easy Peasy!

Hope you like this card share, and that you’ll consider adding the Wildflower Meadow TIEF (and the Butterfly Basics or Bundle, if you don’t already have them!) to your tool stash.  It’s a quick way to add a little oomph to a card!

  1. Very pretty card Mary! Yep, I’ve had a few “creatively” placed pearls and rhinestones on my cards too. 😉

This is very nice. I really like the dark brown with the creamy white. Very classy!

  3. Thanks, Mom. Guess my camera and lighting here is failing me a little – it’s actually dark purple!

Hi Mary, I can relate to your comment about using DSP for matting purposes. I try to cut out thinlit butterflies and petite petals punches out of the paper in the background. Nobody will ever know, but it works really great to stretch the beauty of the pretty papers… And it is very handy having extra butterflies and flowers ready to use for embellishments.
