Butterfly Garden Sympathy

In my last post, I mentioned there were several items in my recent “investment” box that I’d been anxious to play with.  Well, two of those items are featured in today’s share.  Both of them are background stamps – the Corner Garden and the Hardwood stamp.  The Corner Garden stamp – for me – just seems to beg to be paired with the Hardwood Stamp.  My brain easily imagines the two of them together – so that’s what I did today.  Take a look-see:

I started by inking the Hardwood Stamp with Smoky Slate ink.  Then, I laid my Smoky Slate mat on top of the stamp, and carefully rubbed all over the card stock – insuring that I got all areas of the stamp.  That’s usually the easiest way to deal with the background stamps – they’re so big that they can be a little unwieldy to stamp in the “regular” fashion – but doing it this way works every time!  I stamped the Corner Garden onto my Vellum Card Stock in the same manner, this time using Versamark Ink.  I sprinkled it with Smoky Slate Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heated it up.  And then I spent some time playing with my Stampin’ Write Markers.  The heat embossed outlines made it easy to flood the areas with color – and any boo-boos wiped right off with a paper towel!

I used my Stamp-a-ma-jig to ensure my sentiment would be exactly where I wanted it, and stamped it in Memento Black ink.  That sentiment is from the retiring Bloom with Hope hostess set (yes, another fun thing in my last box!).  I love this set – the flowers are wonderful and the sentiments are lovely and written in a beautiful font!  Once the ink was very dry (I helped it a little with the Heat Tool), I edged the Vellum with my Blackberry Bliss marker and then I spread very tiny amounts of Liquid Multipurpose Glue on the back behind the flowers.  I stuck the vellum art piece onto the hardwood-printed mat, and then added a couple of Glue Dots into the top right hand corner – where I decided I’d stick a butterfly (as art and as a cover-up!).  By this time, my design had evolved in my head and was telling me this needed to be a spring garden with flutter-bys fluttering all around in it!

I stamped the Corner Garden onto another piece of vellum, this time in Blackberry Bliss.  Then I cut out the medium size butterfly from the Butterfly Basics Bundle (still available with the special offer thru the end of the month!) from the stamped vellum and from a piece of Blackberry Bliss card stock.  I stuck the two pieces together with a few glue dots just under the body segment of the butterfly.  Adding some pearls finished it off and hid the glue dots, too.  I luvs me some pearls! 🙂

I punched out some Bitty Butterflies with my….Bitty Butterfly Punch….from the stamped vellum and a bit more Blackberry Bliss CS.  They were attached together in the same fashion as their larger compatriot, and adhered around the card with little dabs of Multi-purpose Liquid Glue.  I just wanted it to look like they were flittering and fluttering about around a spring garden. I kind of think I achieved that!  I popped the finished card front onto my Blackberry Bliss card base, and the front was done!

The inside started with some more of the Smoky Slate Card Stock, and this time I used the flowers from the Bloom with Hope set.  I colored the flowers and the stem separately with my Blackberry Bliss and Wild Wasabi Stampin’ Write Markers and then stamped twice without re-inking, re-inked and stamped a third time.  The sentiment, from the same set, is in Blackberry Bliss.  And….done!

Obviously, it would be wonderful to never NEED a sympathy card, but….it’s darned handy to have one in your stash should the need arise.  I’m quite pleased with how this one turned out – and I’m in love with these stamp sets! I’d highly recommend grabbing the Bloom with Hope set before it’s gone. And – don’t forget that you can still get the Butterfly Basics – either the bundle or the thinlits by themselves – thru the end of the month, at a special price and with a fun SAB item (when you buy the bundle)!

1. Get the Butterflies Thinlits at a 15 percent discount–just $21.20! (so if you already have the Butterfly Basics stamp set, you’ll be able to complete the bundle at a great discount!
