Stampin’ Up! Vintage Leaves Express Thoughts and Prayers

Good Monday morning.  My name is Mary and I am, apparently, a stamping addict!  I’m on a one-day business trip, changed time zones, drove half the day.  Before I left the house this morning, I made sure I had my card to reference to post this post, my Cottage Greetings stamp set, my Cottage Greetings card kit, my Delightful Dijon, Basic Gray and Tuxedo Black Inks, my bone folder, SNAIL, Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue, craft ruler, SU! Paper Snips, and the “recipe” for my card.

Oh – and a few clothes for my meeting tomorrow!

I even remembered my make-up.  Don’t laugh – I went on a trip once – where I didn’t wear makeup on the airplane cause I was being pure lazy, and so I left my make-up bag in the second drawer in the bathroom.  Forgot earrings, too.  Had to make a mad dash to Target!! 😉  Since I drove to this meeting – I didn’t wear makeup today, either.  So it’s fortunate that I remembered everything!

Here we go!  Sadly, today’s card is going to be headed to my friends who lost their old Lab yesterday.  Black Jack – or BJ or just B – went to the Rainbow Bridge at the ripe old age of 14.  He was the patriarch of a large family of dogs – several labs, two miniature Doxies and an Australian Shepard.  He was a benelolent leader.  He was father to several beautiful and coveted litters of hunting Labs.  He was a very good boy, and he will be missed.  Jan and Ed and the twins (the same young men I’ve mentioned so often here), will miss his grinning face every day, but will carry their memories of him in their hearts.  I hope this card will let them know that I share in their sorrow.  And surely do understand it completely….

I went with the new Vintage Leaves stamp set and the matching Leaflets Framelits.  Which I bought as a 15% off bundle!  I paired it with the Thoughts and Prayers stamp set, which has so  many wonderful sentiments for this purpose.  Take a look-see:

I saw a similar card on Pinterest (it was from Linda Higgins – go see her site by clicking the link on her name!), and really liked it, so I figured I’d try my version of it.  I started with a panel of Very Vanilla Card Stock and then stamped it with some splatters and splotches and speckles from the Gorgeous Grunge set.  The splatters and splotches are stamped in Soft Suede, which I stamped off once before stamping the actual piece.  Here’s a tip for you – one of the really cool uses of the Stampin’ Up! Grid Paper is the immediate access to a piece of paper to stamp off on – and it will let you be sure that you’re getting a good stamp – BEFORE you hit your good card stock.  And it gives you a spot to write down your card recipe so that you can share it or repeat it.  It’s just a very useful tool – and a great value, too!  Take a look to see what you get.

Anyway – the speckles are done in Crumb Cake, without stamping off first.  Then I pulled out Vintage Leaves and inked up what I assume is a Pin Oak leaf in Delightful Dijon, stamped it off once, and then stamped it on the art piece.  I did that three times, kind of randomly.  Notice that I stayed away from the top left-hand corner of the card, as that was where I’d decided to put my sentiment.

With that done, I adhered a short length (about 2 1/2″) of the 1 1/4″ Burlap Ribbon to the paper, using Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue, to the card front, under where I planned to place my Vintage Leaves.  To that, I added a few loops of Linen Thread and Gold Metallic Thread.  I wound the loops around my hand and then stick them down with Glue Dots, near where the stems of the leaves are.

The leaves were easy.  I stamped the maple (?) leaf in Pumpkin Pie and then I highlighted all the little tiny lines in the leaf with some very light strokes of my Delightful Dijon Stampin’ Write Marker.  The Pin Oak is stamped in Delightful Dijon, and is highlighted with my Cajun Craze SU! Marker.  Just very very light strokes – to add a little depth and color.  Then I cut both leaves out with their matching Leaflets Framelits dies, and sponged their edges lightly with their ink (Pumpkin Pie and Delightful Dijon).

Before I attached the leaves, I stamped the sentiment from Thoughts and Prayers.  As you can see, I stamped it twice, very slightly offset – the first stamp was with Soft Suede and the second was with Pumpkin Pie.  I used my Stamp-a-Ma-Jig to get the offset I wanted – that thing just rocks!

With the sentiment done, I was ready for the leaves.  I adhered the Pin Oak with some Glue Dots and then popped the Maple over the top with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  As a finishing touch, I tied a double bow with Linen Thread and Gold Metallic Thread, and adhered it on the stems with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.

The little Pearl Basic Jewels under the sentiment are colored with a Brown Sharpie – a cool little trick to get a custom colored pearl accent! 🙂

I SNAILd the card front to a Soft Suede mat and then popped that onto a Very Vanilla card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

For the inside, I just repeated some of the speckles in Crumb Cake and a couple of stamped-off-once Delightful Dijon Pin Oak leaves.  Then I stamped another sentiment from Thoughts and Prayers in Soft Suede.  Truth in advertising – I actually did the inside twice.  Yep.  I really kind of hated how it turned out on the first go, so I carefully pulled the card front off the card base, re-stamped the inside of a NEW card base and re-attached the card front.  Sheesh!

I added some leaves and speckles – won’t retell the telling of how to do THAT! – on a Very Vanilla Medium Envelope…..

Et Voila!  The card was done – and I really love how it turned out!  Hope you like!
